#LoveAudio #TeamOrenda | DEEP DOWN DEAD by Steph Broadribb @crimethrillgirl (March 23rd, 2017) @OrendaBooks) @Annecater @audibleuk

Hands down probably THE best book I have read this year. It really is that good. No shadow of doubt that this will make my Top 5 for 2017.  As with SIX STORIES, I wasn’t content with already sharing my review of the physical book, I also have my hands on the AUDIOBOOK!!

Deep-Down-Dead-by-Steph-Broadribb

What is this book you speak of? What is it about?

Lori Anderson is as tough as they come, managing to keep her career as a fearless Florida bounty hunter separate from her role as single mother to nine-year-old Dakota, who suffers from leukaemia. But when the hospital bills start to rack up, she has no choice but to take her daughter along on a job that will make her a fast buck. And that’s when things start to go wrong. The fugitive she’s assigned to haul back to court is none other than JT, Lori’s former mentor – the man who taught her everything she knows … the man who also knows the secrets of her murky past.

Not only is JT fighting a child exploitation racket operating out of one of Florida’s biggest theme parks, Winter Wonderland, a place where ‘bad things never happen’, but he’s also mixed up with the powerful Miami Mob. With two fearsome foes on their tails, just three days to get JT back to Florida, and her daughter to protect, Lori has her work cut out for her. When they’re ambushed at a gas station, the stakes go from high to stratospheric, and things become personal.

Thoughts?

My first question getting stuck into this audiobook was; How would I love Lori now she has a voice? Well, I can tell you… I loved her even more than when I read the words back in January!

As I mentioned in my review for the SIX STORIES audiobook – I think one of the reasons why I tend to shy away from audiobooks is that for the most part, it is one narrator covering all characters. I like to be able to differentiate between the characters and hear how that narrator puts their own spin on them. However that said, Jennifer Woodward has done such a cracking job with bringing the characters to life, that there is no need for multiple narrators.

Jennifer narrates this story beautifully. She captures the essence of Lori perfectly. Lori is a tough bounty hunter, a mother, a lover and to try and convey all three of those different traits at once, to me is a skill that not many people have! Jennifer gave me all the same feels I had when reading the book back in January.

I was recently talking to Steph (Broadribb) about this at the Harrogate Crime Writers Festival about how I seem to connect better to female narrators, then men? It made obvious sense for a woman to narrate this story given it driven by Lori’s story, however if a man had narrated this story, I’m not sure I would get the same fuzzy feels? Which is interesting as Stephen Fry gives me LIFE narrating the Harry Potter books!

DEEP DOWN DEAD is certainly on the ol’ TOP READS for this year list and I am pleased to say that I can add the audiobook to that list as well!

Thank you so much to Steph Broadribb, Anne Cater, Orenda Books and Audible UK for inviting me to part of #LoveAudio week. After SIX STORIES – I certainly had the buzz for my next adventure into the audiobook world. DEEP DOWN DEAD did not disappoint!
