To kick off, we have the “blurb” for the book;

When India falls to her death from a bridge over a railway, her sister Poppy returns home to Brighton for the first time in years. Unconvinced by official explanations, Poppy begins her own investigation into India’s death. But the deeper she digs, the closer she comes to uncovering deeply buried secrets.

Could Matthew Temple, the boyfriend she abandoned, be involved? And what of his powerful and wealthy parents, and his twin sister, Ana? Enter the mysterious and ethereal Jenny: the girl Poppy discovers after hacking into India’s laptop. What is exactly is she hiding, and what did India find out about her? Taking the reader on a breathless ride through the winding lanes of Brighton, into its vibrant party scene and inside the homes of its well-heeled families,

The Other Twin is a startling and up-to-the-minute thriller about the social-media world, where resentments and accusations are played out online, where identities are made and remade, and where there is no such thing as truth.

So, you want to know what I think?

This is one of those books that has been buzzed for a while – with pretty much EVERY blogger saying they loved this book and I can see why. I knew I was onto a good thing when I devoured the first 30 pages in less than half an hour!

Less than 24 hours later and I have finished THE OTHER TWIN and all I can think is “Wow! Surely this is the best book I’ve read this year now?” There is something so simple about the story – but what the author has been able to do is really add in those little gems that make us as readers eager to discover more.

The story moves at a quick enough pace that we are kept involved in the developments, but not too slow that we become bored. The author has been able to write the balance perfectly. We are given time to breathe between key moments in the book and really take in what is happening.

Can we also talk about how HOT this book is? I do not want to give away any more than the blurb already suggests, but there are certain moments with Poppy that are definitely NSFW! But the scenes are important to the story and aren’t gratuitous for the sake of it. It helps us to understand the dynamics between Poppy and the ‘other chap’. Knowing the background gave me that awkward feeling of when two people are thrown together after years apart. I was fully invested in these characters from the first page.

There are some pretty relevant themes running through this book and I think that Hay has done a superb job of bringing them to life, again without being over the top for the sake of it. This story is relevant to everyone; race, gender, social media, sexual preference. Each point has been covered with the greatest respect, but also shows the ugly side that still too many people face.

I can honestly say that THE OTHER TWIN is one of the books that I will always bring up in conversations with friends. Truly one of the best books, if not THE best book I have read so far this year!
