RIDE OR DIE #1: A Devil’s Highwaymen MC Novel by Cee Cee Riley (aka Claire C.Riley)

‘We would blow up this world and create something beautiful in its ruins’
Jesse & Laney 1985
We were each survivors of our upbringing: lost, unloved and afraid. But like moths to a flame, we couldn’t stay apart.
And then we shattered each other’s hearts.
Jesse was a hard man: a biker outlaw for the Devil’s Highwaymen MC. I was Laney: the daughter of a dead mother and a father that didn’t know or want me.
We were doomed right from the start.
But this was our romance.
And this was our disaster.
And hopefully, this would be our second chance.
Book One in the Ride or Die Devil’s Highwaymen MC series
*M* and me have booked our tickets for RARE 18 next February and out of the 100+ authors that will be attending…we have read the works of any 3/4 of them! Which is SHAMEFUL! In a bid to discover new authors (new authors to us that is) we have both started to pick names at random and read their work.
Cee Cee Riley was hosting a giveaway on her FB page, so naturally we both entered. It was then we were approached and offered a complimentary copy of RIDE OR DIE! Merry Christmas to us! We graciously accepted and jumped straight into the story! At this point, I’d never read an MC romance novel. I was aware of them…but was yet to take the plunge!
The book came with a stark warning from Cee Cee who advised the first chapter of the book is pretty hard hitting and she wasn’t wrong! We get a rather harsh and grim introduction into Jesse’s life and how his life is soon changed in a big way!
If you are looking for nothing but fluffy clouds, rainbows, flowers and hearts – then this is not the book for you! RIDE OR DIE is brutal, disloyal, unforgiving, uncomfortable and full fo angst…..all features which are tied up in a ribbon of beautiful storytelling and such intense romance that you can side step the other traits.
What I enjoyed was the telling of the story from when Jesse and Laney first met when they were teenagers. This is a tale of forbidden love, but a love which will soon defy all the odds in order to share their life together. You can certainly see influences from Romeo & Juliet..except in RIDE OR DIE, the two families are not sworn enemies.
This story isn’t all about the romance between Jesse and Laney either, which I both surprised and pleased about – there is a bigger story at play with politics within the MC and with other clubs in the area, which helps to balance this book perfectly. I wonder if I would have enjoyed this read as much if it had been ALL just Jesse and Laney?
RIDE OR DIE #2 is now available and follows the story of Dom, Casa and Harlow – all characters which feature heavily in RIDE OR DIE #1. However I am keen to read the next chapter for Jesse and Laney as the story ended in a way that leaves the door open for their next adventure.
Thank you so much again to Cee Cee for gifting us a copy of RIDE OR DIE #1. This has not affected our review in any way and all thoughts are our own and honest.
