Welcome to my stop on this Blog Tour for the release of IN THE BLOOD by Lesley Walsh.

I would like to say that it is truly my pleasure to be invited onto this blog tour! Particular thanks to Sarah Hardy and Bloodhound Books who gifted me an early copy of IN THE BLOOD. I am forever grateful and promise that the review below is 100% honest and of my own views.

To kick off, we have the “blurb” for the book;

Are you looking for a breathtaking crime thriller full of shocking twists? Then try the gripping and unmissable In The Blood.

Grace Dobbs, a champion at her local gun club, lives a quiet life in Western Australia with her mother.

But when a violent spree killing in the neighbourhood sees Grace come to the rescue, she is catapulted into the limelight as a local heroine.

However, her fame spreads much further than the local town, bringing her to the attention of someone in Britain who is very keen to meet her.

But what does this person want? And can they be trusted?

As Grace travels to England to discover her true heritage, she is about to learn the real meaning of danger.

So, want to know what I thought?

Never have I felt such respsonsibility to ensure that a review I write does justice to an authors work. Learning that Lesley sadly passed away in 2017, there was an immense amount of pressure…what if I didn’t enjoy the book?

Turns out that this pressure was bollocks and I needn’t have worried. I LOVED this book! From the first chapter when we are introduced to Grace in the most awful of situations, we are drawn into an international cat and mouse story while Grace tries to discover and reconnect with her past.

I was surprised at the level of violence in this book – which is no bad thing! I enjoy a bit of violence in my crime novels. From the beginning of the story, the violence escalates as we learn more about the mystery surrounding Grace’s background. There are many layers to each of the characters which makes you question their motives and what they are saying.

The biggest surprise of this story for me was Tony. I’m just going to leave that statement there. When you read this book (because you REALLY should!), all will become clear and you will have the same reaction as me of “WTF?!”. Aside from Grace, his is the most interesting of character development.

IN THE BLOOD is a credit to Lesley as an author and a novel that both her and her family can and should be proud of!
