Which is why I’m more than a little surprised to find him at my threshold, looking for my friendship, my services, and most puzzling of all—looking humbled.
Thing is, I’m on a boycott. Literally—I cut boys from my life. Permanently.
Problem is, Bane is not a boy, he is all man, and I’m falling, crashing, drowning in his sweet, perfect lies.

Jesse Carter
Hot as hell, cold as ice.
I wasn’t aware of her existence until a fat, juicy deal landed in my lap.
She’s a part of it, a little plaything to kill some time.
She is collateral, a means to an end, and a side-bonus for striking a deal with her oil tycoon stepdad.
More than anything, Jesse Carter is a tough nut to crack.
Little does she know, I have the teeth for it.

Having recently finished VICIOUS, I was half expecting to read about another arrogant arsehole who believes the world owes him something.

Thank the gods of metal that this is NOT the case with BANE. Granted, he has an air of arrogance about him, and a very colourful past that would give Bob Ross a run for his money! But there’s something about the way he acts from the start that it is nothing more than a defensive front.

Jesse has had it rough. BANE is a pretty dark read – so consider this your warning if you are triggered by scenes of sexual abuse! I thought Leigh wrote her character perfectly. Jesse wants to pretty much stay invisible from the world. She only goes out when she needs to and tries to avoid human contact at ALL costs. Until obviously Bane tramples all over that.

The chemistry between Jesse and Bane is beyond doubt some of the best I have read. I fell for every word, every promise and every action. Leigh really does have a way of writing characters that mess with both your head and heart!

Easily, BANE is my favourite novel from L.J. Shen that I have read to date! Which is a HUGE statement when you consider just how much I was in love with MIDNIGHT BLUE!
