FIVE YEARS FROM NOW by Paige Toon

What if you met the right person at the wrong time?
Nell and Van meet as children when their parents fall in love, but soon they are forced worlds apart.
Five years later, they find each other. Their bond is rekindled and new feelings take hold, but once again they must separate.
For the next two decades, fate brings Nell and Van together every five years, as life and circumstance continue to divide them. Will they ever find true happiness? And will it be together?
‘One day, maybe five years from now, you’ll look back and understand why this happened…’
My first 5 star read of the year and boy did this book deserve it. I was hooked from the first page and just couldn’t stop turning the pages until I got to the end.
Starting at the age of 40 and then going back to age 5 when Nell and Van meet when their parents become a couple the story jumps every 5 years to tragedy pulling them apart before they meet again and so on.
Set in the beautiful Cornish setting which Paige does an amazing job of bringing alive and really makes you want to visit, this story has it all. From laughter to heartbreak this book takes you on an emotional roller coaster that you never want to get off.
I was constantly on the edge of my seat and just when I thought I knew what was going to happen Paige would completely change direction. It was so refreshing to read a book that was unpredictable and kept me guessing.
There are times throughout the book you really want to bang Nell and Van’s heads together and shake Geoff to open his eyes but overall the characters are lovable and you can’t help but smile at the nervousness and shyness they convey. There are a lot of characters in this book that I would LOVE to hear more of and I hope Paige develops their stories in the future.
The only disappointment for me is that there is no link to previous books like I have come to expect from Paige but it was a tiny drop in the ocean compared to the love I have for this book.
Paige just re affirmed herself as one of my favourite authors! Already excited to see what she comes up with next. LOVE LOVE LOVE her!!
