KING (King #1) by T.M. Frazier
Published; June 15th 2015, Indie Published
Homeless. Hungry. Desperate.
Doe has no memories of who she is or where she comes from.
A notorious career criminal just released from prison, King is someone you don’t want to cross unless you’re prepared to pay him back in blood, sweat, pu$$y or a combination of all three.
King’s future hangs in the balance. Doe’s is written in her past. When they come crashing together, they will have to learn that sometimes in order to hold on, you have to first let go.
KING by T M Frazier was a book I was not expecting, but I ventured into the wonderful world of Frazier after a recommendation from my fellow P Turner *S*. Here is a story that throws you in at the deep end, leaving you both intrigued and utterly shocked. This is not your average contemporary romance.
Our hero of the story is your ultimate bad boy, a beautiful man with a troubled past, King. He’s talented and frightening all at the same time. This is a bad boy so bad there is no apparent road to redemption. Or is there?
The heroine of the story is a young girl, Doe, who has no memory at all of who she is, a lost soul in every sense of the word. A character who is trying to make the best of a very bad situation, a situation that leads her straight into the arms of our bad boy King. Here is a man who comes across as being the bad guy, the villain but he is so much more than that. With a handsomeness that is unparalleled here and qualities that show you deep down, he really is the hero of this story.
The path to these two falling in love, which ultimately, they do, is not easy. A relationship develops that is fraught with anger, lust, trust and in the end betrayal. The chemistry between them is intense to say the least, King is a man who will take whatever he wants from Doe and she at first is unwilling to give in. But as worlds collide and they are thrown together by events, it is made clear by the writing how much King is falling in love with Doe, as she is with him.
Frazier has created two characters that are equally as messed up as each other, their backgrounds aren’t simple or avoidable forever. As much as we want them to stay together, wrapped up in their unusual little bubble, it is clear that nothing will remain as is. How can it when we have so many questions.
I wanted answers, Frazier’s clever writing makes sure you need answers but also you’re rooting for this couple. I wanted King and Doe to be together, to find happiness in a dreary world. Sure their pasts can’t be forgotten, or in Doe’s case remembered but there is a bond between them that just flat out works. Doe is a strong woman, she knows her own worth in some ways and is stubborn in others. Balance this against King and all his bad boy ways, with his delectable skills and talent, this is a power house of a couple.
When I reached the end of the novel, happy to finally have some answers, I was also left devastated. Closing the last page, or in the case of a Kindle reader, swiping the last page, I knew for sure that this is a story I have to finish.
Thank you T M Frazier, for giving us King, an exquisite story of an unlikely couple. A love that is both beautiful and devastating all at once.
