THE END OF THE WORLD RUNNING CLUB by Adrian J. Walker
Published; June 2nd 2016, Del Rey Books
THE ULTIMATE RACE AGAINST TIME THRILLER
When the world ends and you find yourself stranded on the wrong side of the country, every second counts.
No one knows this more than Edgar Hill. 550 miles away from his family, he must push himself to the very limit to get back to them, or risk losing them forever…
His best option is to run.
But what if your best isn’t good enough?
‘To survive you need to run’
I picked this book up from my local library as the title caught my attention and sounded like an interesting read. When I finally got round to starting this story I didn’t want to put it down for work, sleep or socialising. I don’t know why it took me so long to start! Now I’ve finished and I don’t know what to do with myself!
This was a fast paced story starting from the initial hints of what has happened to the world continuing to how humankind was surviving and the groups adventure across the country. Whilst I doubt I could do an IdentiKit for the characters from their descriptions (although this could be due to my lack of imagination on this part) I did find I got emotionally attached to them and felt their highs, lows and running aches and pains with them. I found myself urging the group and Edgar to keep going and not give up so he could be reunited with his family before time ran out.
I believe this should be on everyone’s TBR list who enjoys the apocalyptic genre.
Just keep going Ed!
