Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome…

Come inside The Glamour Patch club to see the star of our show, Miss Vivica Blue.

Do you want to read my diary you nosy little devils? Have a glass of champagne (you’ll need it) and get comfortable because you’re in for some crazy shenanigans brought to you straight from the horse’s mouth.

I can be whatever you want me to be: boy, girl, a little bit of both.

If you have a problem with a man in a dress then best be off with you. If males in make-up give you the willies, then I’ll say au revoir and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

So, who are we left with? Ah, a fine collection of curious souls. I want to tell you a tale of love, because those are the most glorious kind. I want to tell you about real love, a love that transcends labels and gender stereotypes.

The moment I first laid eyes on my Freda I knew that we were kindred. Well okay, I also knew I wanted to get into her pants, but that’s beside the point. My world was a grey place. I was at my lowest ebb. Then she came along and patches of colour began to spring forth. One day the daffodils were yellow and before I knew it, colour was everywhere, lighting up my life.

Love is not about how we appear on the outside, it’s about the soul contained within.

Our story was not a conventional one, but it was ours, and that’s what made it shine.

I first came across L H Cosway when myself and my fellow P Turner *S* were preparing for RARE18 in London, I read the novel PAINTED FACES and instantly fell in love with L H Cosway, these characters and Dublin. Later in the year we attended the Four Brits Book Fest in Oxford and had the pleasure of meeting L H Cosway again. It was here that I came across KILLER QUEEN, another novel in the PAINTED FACES universe and I knew that I just had to read this.

Fred and Nicholas are by far one of my all time favourite fictional couples, I love all facets of them, from Fred’s Irish charm and sarcastic nature to Nicholas’s femininity and devilish good looks. Everything about this couple drew me in and reading KILLER QUEEN, the story of their relationship from Nicholas’s perspective was a huge draw for me.

Of course after reading PAINTED FACES I had very high expectations from L H Cosway, could she pull off this story again from a different angle and still make me an emotional wreck? The answer is yes. I don’t know what it is about these characters but they appeal to me on a level I’ve never felt before. I can relate to Fred in a way that I think a lot of readers relate to female characters, she feels completely real and the relationship between her and Nicholas is beautiful on every level.

KILLER QUEEN gives us an insight into Nicholas’s character, showing us the darkest recesses of himself and the lightness that Fred brings into his world. Sure he has a troubled past, one that has shaped him into a true gentleman, but he is attractive because he knows he is flawed. A handsome man, with the body of an Adonis, he has the confidence to be himself and give us Vivica Blue. I was attracted to both sides of his character and enjoyed seeing how he flows so easily between the two personas from his point of view.

L H Cosway has created two characters that are truly magnificent, they’re entirely human, flawed and utterly beautiful. KILLER QUEEN cemented for me the love story between them and made me fall even more in love. Here we have a writer who has flawlessly created a set of characters that appeal to all audiences, set in the beauty of Dublin and you can see from her writing the love she has for the characters.

I am unashamedly biased, I felt so strongly for Fred and Nicholas after reading PAINTED FACES that I knew I would love KILLER QUEEN. What I didn’t anticipate was just how much. For me this novel has become my all time favourite, I love these characters and am a massive fan of L H Cosway’s talent. Never one to normally have a strong emotional reaction to a novel, I admit that reading this I did shed tears of happiness for the characters. The book hangover I’ve experienced before is nothing to what I am feeling now that I’ve read the last page. I think this book lover will be in a state of despair for a while and I couldn’t be more thrilled, because KILLER QUEEN is worth every penny, tear and hangover.
