New Tides (The Cornwall Tides Trilogy #1)
by Rachel De Lune
Release Date: 29th October
Trust is a slow burn. And love can be, too.
Ellie Carter is hiding — from her past and from life, which she barely lives. She fled to Cornwall after a trauma but doesn’t know where to start. The fictional world is far safer than real life, and there she can experience everything she has no ability to embrace.
With scars too raw to touch, trust isn’t something Ellie awards easily. Owen Riggs held some of that trust but shattered it before he even had the chance to ask her out on a date.
As an eternal optimist who believes in love above all, Owen refuses to give up on Ellie and will stop at nothing to repair the damage he’s done. He’ll have to tread carefully if he can ever hope for redemption — and her salvation.
I was lucky enough to meet Rachel De Lune at the Tattooed Bad Boys book event earlier in the year and have spent the past few months adding her books to my “to be read” list.
Her latest story piqued my interest by being set in the beautiful place of Cornwall, somewhere I recently had the pleasure of visiting myself and I fell in love. I fell in love with Cornwall and fell further in love with Ellie and Owen in New Tides.
Here is a story that drew me in from the very beginning; the female heroine is someone I can relate to on a new level. The trauma of her past isn’t something I can relate to personally, but you, as a reader, can understand her solitude, the escapism she finds in books. Don’t we all use books as an escape from our reality? I know I do and with this I felt a kinship with Ellie that I’ve rarely found in female characters in this genre.
The appearance of Owen was timed perfectly for our heroine and for us. Immediately we are intrigued by the handsome stranger, eager for Ellie to break out of her solitude and embrace the gentleman before her. As their friendship develops we fall deeply in love with both of them, with the people around them, with Cornwall.
I could not stop reading this story, I wanted to stay at home and find solace in a story that is truly beautiful. The heart and soul of this story is love, the love of a man and a woman, of friends, of a four legged companion and embracing the tides of Mother Nature, in a setting so magnificent that I want to up sticks and relocate to Cornwall myself.
If this is the first in a trilogy, then you can guarantee that I will most definitely be reading the next two novels. Rachel De Lune is a very talented writer, one who knows her characters and knows exactly how to create them for her readers. I devoured every word, relished turning every page and like our heroine Ellie fell utterly and completely in love.
Thank you Rachel for creating these characters, for setting the story in my favourite place and for giving us a couple that gives us all hope for love no matter what our pasts hold against us.
