#BlogTour #BookReview | INSTRUCTIONS FOR FALLING IN LOVE by Lucy Mitchell @Blondewritemore (June 23rd 2019 @BOTBSPublicity )

Welcome! This is our stop on this Blog Tour for Instructions For Falling In Love Again by Lucy Mitchell.

Thank you very much to Sarah Hardy @ BookOnTheBrightSide and Lucy Mitchell for providing a copy of the book to *L* The review below is 100% honest and all of her own views.

Book blurb:

What would you do if your late husband left you a list of instructions on how to fall in love with someone else?

Pippa Browning is faced with this exact dilemma, three years after the death of her husband, Dan.

Buried at the bottom of a drawer are a collection of notebooks full of Dan’s advice on how to live without him.

Pippa’s notebook is red and contains his instructions on how to fall in love again.

But Dan doesn’t just want Pippa to fall in love with anyone – Dan’s crazy suggestion is that Pippa should date his handsome friend, Mikey Stenton, a known thrill-seeking ladies’ man.

Reluctant to follow Dan’s advice, Pippa enters the world of dating. She embarks on a humorous journey of self-discovery, with the help of her children and two best friends.

It isn’t long before Pippa is finding it hard to ignore Dan’s instructions and Mikey Stenton.

Is Mikey really the man that everyone thinks him to be? Or was Dan right, and Mikey’s simply been misunderstood?

A heart-warming romantic comedy about motherhood, friendship and finding love, the second time around.

When I was asked if I wanted to join the blog tour review for this book and I read the Synopsis I jumped on the chance. The story seemed right up my street, as our followers will know, I love a good romance/chick lit book and this seemed to fit right into this category.

However this book surprised me. There seemed to be a lot more depth in it than just a simple boy meets girl story. Pippa lost her husband Dan 3 years ago to an aggressive form of cancer. Dan knowing he was going to die, prepared notebooks for his wife and children encouraging them to continue living their lives doing the things they loved. Pippa’s notebook included instructions on how to fall in love, even going as far as to choose the man she should love.

Mikey Stenton, on the outside, looks like a lady loving, football playing tough man but as it turns out Dan saw a lot more to Mikey than anyone else and he saw how much Mikey adored his wife Pippa. Dan also left Mikey a notebook telling him how to fall in love with Pippa and ultimately giving the couple their blessing.

As Pippa tries to find her feet running her family home and looking after their 3 children by herself, she decides it’s time to take Dan’s advice and begin dating again. As she runs into Mikey, she can’t see what Dan Sees and tries to ignore the little flutter she feels every time she sees him.
Mikey is dealing with his own issues, and we see a much deeper side to him as he has to struggle with the loss of his single parent brother and help his Mum with raising his niece.

I really enjoyed reading the story from both points of view and seeing how things posted on social media and second hand stories aren’t always painting the real picture. Pippa is quick to judge Mikey on the things she has seen online and through her friends and this puts her off listening to Dan’s advice. As Pippa and Mikey continue to meet in unusual situations, Pippa begins to question what she thinks she knows as she gets to see and know the real Mikey.

This book was written with such raw emotion that it shines through on the pages. I found myself feeling everything that Lucy was writing and everything that Pippa and Mikey was going through. I loved the constant surprises that Lucy threw at us throughout the book, it was not as predictable as I expected. Although of course it has a happy ending, there are lots of twists and turns for us to get there.

There was a fantastic, emotional, easy book to read and I can’t wait to see what else Lucy Mitchell brings us in the future. I can see a great and successful career as an author for her. An excellent debut novel.
