#BookReview | HAPPY-GO-LUCKY by L H Cosway @LHCosway (August 14th 2019)

Thank you very much to L H Cosway for providing a copy of the book to *M*

The review below is 100% honest and all of her own views.

Blurb:

Every workplace has that one person you don’t want to mess with.
At James & Peterson Investigations, that would be Cameron Grant: sullen, grouchy, intimidating, oh yeah, and sexy as hell. He can make your soul wither with a single disapproving glare. And he never, ever socialises with his co-workers.
This is why Maisie Wilkins, happy-go-lucky ray of sunshine, can’t fathom why Cameron finally decided to show up at their annual office Christmas party. Every year he received an invite, and every year he failed to attend. But not this year.
Curious as to why he’s there, Maisie can’t resist sitting next to Cameron. Before she knows it, she’s had one too many drinks and is drunkenly hailing a cab back to his place. Office party flings are not something she normally does, but despite his intimidating character, Cameron has a charm she can’t resist. Or maybe it was just those five gin and tonics blurring her judgement.
Whatever the reason, Maisie now has to navigate the awkward, tension filled waters of sharing an office with someone she’s slept with.

Review:

When I first read the newsletter episodes of Happy-go-lucky, I was hooked. Eagerly awaiting the next instalment in L H Cosway’s newsletter. I needed to know what happened between Cameron and Maisie, did they have another steamy encounter, would an office romance work. We were left with so many questions and I was very hopeful Cosway would finish their story.

Once the ARC landed on my Kindle I instantly re-read the first few chapters, reminding myself of their chemistry and the beauty of their budding relationship. Maisie is a heroine who reminded me to always be hopeful, to look on the bright side of things and not let negativity of life dampen the joy of reading. At  a time when I am snowed under, reading the story of Maisie and Cameron became the perfect escape. I could relate to Cameron’s grumpy nature, his coldness towards people and the way Maisie melts his heart.

There is something brutally honest and intriguing about the relationship between these characters, the way they balance each other out. They’re the perfect couple, but instead of being an unrealistic perfection, they’re actually relatable. Cosway is one writer who knows what she is doing, seemingly knowing her characters inside and out.

It is becoming hard to not love every novel I read by L H Cosway, her work speaks to me on a level most novels fail to reach. I’ve always been a cynical reader, not one to fall easily in love with characters but Cosway’s beautiful writing, witty and relatable characters make this cynical reader feel hope. This is a love story, a steamy, intelligent, intimate and beautiful love story.

I’ve said this before, but it is still as true today as it was after reading Painted Faces, I cannot wait to read the next treasure by L H Cosway. Who knows, maybe we’ll get to revisit the beautiful and gorgeous Maisie and Cameron.

Happy-go-lucky, a story that leaves you feeling just that, happy.

Thank you L H Cosway!
