Vanessa Mazur knows she’s doing the right thing. She shouldn’t feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary.
But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she’s beyond shocked.
For two years, the man known as The Wall of Winnipeg couldn’t find it in him to tell her good morning or congratulate her on her birthday. Now? He’s asking for the unthinkable.
What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?
Review;
STORY TIME!! It all started with this little (and I’m being sarcastic when I say ‘little’) book event called RARE – the Romance Authors and Readers Event. The year was 2018 and *M* and I were attending RARE in London. Over 100 authors – both indie and traditionally published, all with a love of contemporary romance, under ONE roof for readers to meet and swoon over their favourite book boyfriends, girlfriends and other creatures (I see you PNR readers!)
When the author list was first announced, I trawled through to see how many I’d already read. It was an embarrassingly low number of 2!! This had to be rectified as soon as humanly possible. I wanted to give the event and the authors the respect it deserved, so I started trawling through all of the authors and looking into what kind of story they wrote. Second chance romance, MC romance, Erotica, Enemies to Lovers… you name it – Romance fiction has the sub-genre for it.
I’d never considered Sports romance as a thing before….sure, I’ve read plenty of ‘smut’ and billionaire romance, but had not yet ventured into the realms of the sports romance. That was until I saw Mariana Zapata. The book – FROM LUKOV WITH LOVE. This book had EVERYTHING!! It gave me the tension, the slow burning friendship/romance…not to mention the ice skating (secret pleasure of mine – to watch that is!!). But what surprised me the most was the writing. The writing is SUPERB!
This is why I was keen beans to pick up another of her works and landed on THE WALL OF WINNIPEG. There’s no two ways around. Mariana Zapata has a natural gift of being able build tension, pull the readers into the characters world and fully invest in the relationship. The story will start with you hating the hero. He’s moody, unapproachable..and of course drop dead gorgeous, so keeping a level head around him is out of the question!
I cannot wait to get stuck into the rest of Mariana’s work – I know I’ll be on the ride of my life without disappointment!
