#BlogTour | #BookReview | FOR WHEN IM GONE by Rebecca Ley @RebeccaHelenLey @orionbooks (September 3rd 2020) @Tr4cyF3nt0n #ForWhenImGone

Thank you very much to Tracy @ Compulsive Readers and Rebecca Ley for providing a copy of the book to [K]

The review below is 100% honest and all of her own views.

Blurb:

A life cut short. A grieving family. A mother’s guide to surviving without her…

On the surface Sylvia and Paul’s marriage is perfection: she is beautiful, alluringly spiky and brilliantly clever, he is a devoted and doting husband and father to their two young children, Megan and Jude.

When Sylvia is diagnosed with terminal cancer at 38, she knows that she must help Paul navigate the chaos of family life in her absence and that the time has come for a secret she has kept from him throughout their marriage to finally be aired. Sylvia starts to write a manual: a guidebook to their shared domesticity.

As Paul learns to live and love without Sylvia, he realises the extent of her legacy and finds himself indebted once more to his extraordinary, difficult wife, for saving them from an even greater tragedy…

FOR WHEN I’M GONE is about what it means to leave life unfinished, as well as the compromises of a marriage and motherhood. Inspiring and heart-breaking in equal measure, this debut marks Rebecca Ley out as a stunning new talent.

Review:

Because there is never enough time to say goodbye…

Sylvia’s time is running out, at 38 and diagnosed with terminal cancer she knows she will never get better. So she has decided to write a handbook to leave for husband Paul to help guide him through the rest of his life and raising a young family, without her.

This isn’t normally a book I would pick up but the blurb moved me to give it a go, and I was so glad I did. Heartbreaking and poignant this book is split between present day and the past, taking you through Sylvia’s life from when she met Paul to present day and how Paul is coping raising his family without Sylvia in his life anymore. Personifying that old adage of you do not know what you have till it’s gone, Paul realises just how much of an input, even into the little things, Sylvia had in their lives.

I loved this story of love and loss, I will hold my family a little closer to me after reading this as no one knows what is around the corner.

I cannot wait to pick up another book by Rebecca soon.
