#BlogTour | #BookReview | ORANGE CITY (Orange City #1) by Lee Matthew Goldberg @LeeMatthewG (March 16th 2021) #OrangeCity #LeeMatthewGoldberg @BlackthornTours #BlackthornBookTours

Hello and welcome to our stop on the Orange City blog tour!

Thank you very much to Lilyan @ Blackthorn Book Tours Goldberg for providing a copy of the book to [K]

The reviews below are 100% honest and all of her own views.

Imagine a secret, hidden City that gives a second chance at life for those selected to come: felons, deformed outcasts, those on the fringe of the Outside World. Everyone gets a job, a place to live; but you are bound to the City forever. You can never leave.

Its citizens are ruled by a monstrous figure called the “Man” who resembles a giant demented spider from the lifelike robotic limbs attached to his body. Everyone follows the Man blindly, working hard to make their Promised Land stronger, too scared to defy him and be discarded to the Empty Zones.

After ten years as an advertising executive, Graham Weatherend receives an order to test a new client, Pow! Sodas. After one sip of the orange flavor, he becomes addicted, the sodas causing wild mood swings that finally wake him up to the prison he calls reality.

A dynamic mash-up of 1984 meets LOST, Orange City is a lurid, dystopian first book in a series that will continue with the explosive sequel Lemonworld.

Praise for ORANGE CITY:

“In his compelling novel, ORANGE CITY, novelist LEE MATTHEW GOLDBERG, has crafted a unique dystopian thriller that manages to reveal our greatest fears about emerging technology and our anxieties at what the future holds.” – Raymond A. Villareal, Author of A People’s History of the Vampire Uprising.

You are given a second chance to start over in your life, a different city, a new job and a place to live. But there is one catch, once you agree you can never ever leave…

When we first meet Graham he is given this choice and grabs the chance to turn his life around. After 10 years in the city he is chosen to test a new soda and create new advertising for it. One sip Graham is addicted and life as he knows it is forever changed.

Seriously, I don’t think anything this man could ever be anything less than brilliant!  This is my 5th book I’ve read from Lee and it has left me craving more (not quite as badly as Graham Weatherend with his Pow! sodas, thankfully!)

Starting this story I was thrust into this new world where everyone needs to keep working hard, and not lose favour incase they are thrown to the Empty Zones. Feeling as though I had also samped the soda, I was taken on a psychedelic journey with Graham as his Pow! addiction and experiences became more and more outlandish, his world being turned upside down, whilst he was trying to battle his addiction and keep his bosses happy.

I really hope that Lemonworld is released soon as I find in quiet times my thoughts revert to Graham and what he may possibly be doing given the events revealed in the first book and how it was left.

I don’t want to say too much about this remarkable book, as I think it needs to be experienced to fully appreciate the world that is created.
