Side effects of working with the world’s hottest doctor

Raised temperature,

Raised blood pressure

Raised pulse

And

Dropped panties

He’s my new boss.

He’s my Ex

He’s still the hottest doctor on the planet.

But he’s my Ex for a reason, a very good reason

And yet

Here I am gathering what’s let of my dignity

along with my tattered panties.

Resisting the good doctor’s charms is proving

to be tougher than raising a feisty five year old.

He’s so used to getting his way,

But when he threatens to take everything

The gloves come off,

He may wear the white coat

But I wear a single-mother frickin cape.

Review:

Side Effects by Dee Palmer is one of those reads where you are dying to know the facts, to see what went wrong for the leading couple and hope that they can get their lives together. From the offset we know there is a history between Regan and Joel, that much is evident from their early sex scenes and the emotional aftermath. Palmer cleverly works flash backs into the narrative of this story, to ensure that the reader knows the full ins and outs of this volatile relationship.

The mixture of romantic wreckage and hopeful salvation between Regan and Joel make for an explosive couple, a couple you want to get to know and see through to the end. Here we have a story that exudes confidence in the form of our cocky leading man and vulnerability with our leading lady. Regan is sure of herself most of the time, confident but falls easily and quickly for Joel’s charms but who can blame her. Palmer sure knows how to write alpha males and she does it well.

This was a great story to read, one that kept me guessing and intrigued. I couldn’t fault the characters and even though one is particular is a questionable character, overall I’d recommend this novel to anyone who likes their leading men a little too cocky and their sexual chemistry with a slight kink.

#BlogTour | #BookReview | BLINDSIDED by Amy Daws @AMYDAWSAUTHOR (NOVEMBER 21ST 2019)

Thank you very much to Amy Daws for providing a copy of the book to *M*

The review below is 100% honest and all of her own views.

Blurb:

What happens when an almost thirty-year-old virgin agrees to let her Scottish footballer best friend give her some lessons in seduction?

Lots of banter, awkwardness, jealousy, and heat.

Midfielder Maclay “Mac” Logan is a loud-mouthed, tattooed ginger content with focusing on football. But when an adorably-freckled seamstress comes barreling into his life, he finds Netflix-And-Bickering with her to be his new favorite pastime.

Freya Cook is used to being the invisible woman with a needle and thread, offering cheeky punchlines as she helps dress London’s finest. She’s plus-sized in body and spirit, and other than her friendship with Mac, talking to the opposite sex is one skill she never mastered.

However, after one innocent game of Never Have I Ever, Mac offers to play Love Coach for Freya.

What neither of them see coming are the feelings that develop when the clothes come off.

Now they’re both about to learn the biggest lesson of all: Don’t fall in love with your best friend.

Review:

As soon as I heard that Amy Daws was venturing into the wonderful world of the Harris Brothers with a new book, I was beyond ecstatic.

Once the ARC of Blindsided landed on my Kindle I put aside all other books and focused purely on this story. The characters were already familiar, having met them in previous novels in the series but this time we got to know Freya and Mac on a whole other level.

This was a chance for two side characters to become our leading couple and what a couple they are. Daws creates characters that you want to be friends with, a feisty leading lady and a handsome, sensitive leading man. Together they set the pages alight, both with sexual chemistry and their hilarious friendship.

I could not stop reading, I needed to know more about Freya and Mac, to get inside their heads and understand how they work as separate characters. The dual narrative is the perfect tool for readers to see inside the mindset of both Freya and Mac, to fall deeply in love with them both.

Because that is exactly what you do as a reader, fall helplessly in love with two beautiful characters. I saw a lot of myself in Freya, a girl after my own heart, her self confidence growing as the story develops and Mac is the perfect Scottish gentleman. Daws knows how to write her characters, she is utterly invested in them and makes it such a pleasure for the reader.

Words cannot thank Amy Daws enough for creating this world, full to the brim with such lovable characters and one a reader wants to dive head first into. The excitement of a new book by this author is immeasurable, especially one from this series. For me I don’t fall in love with characters easily, but these characters completely have my heart. I loved reading their story and will re-read the entire Harris Brothers series for years to come.

It is safe to say I am completely smitten with Mac and Freya, so much so that I will definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants an truly enjoyable, romantic and funny read. Because they will most definitely not be disappointed.

Please Amy Daws, never stop sharing your talent with the world, you’re an amazing writer and truly beautiful author.

I am will admit I am now a proud Mac Logan fangirl, Roan DeWalt lover and a Harris Ho.

#MediaTour | #BlogTour | #BookReview | MY BEAUTIFUL DETOUR: AN UNTHINKABLE JOURNEY FROM GUTLESS TO GRATEFUL by Amy Oestreicher @AmyOes (May 29th 2019)

Thank you very much to Amy Oestreicher for providing a copy of the book to [K]

The review below is 100% honest and all of her own views.

An estimated 70 percent of adults in the United States have experienced a traumatic event at least once in their lives and up to 20 percent of these people go on to develop posttraumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. An estimated 5 percent of Americans—more than 13 million people—have PTSD at any given time.

Amy Oestreicher was one of them. So, what happens when an ordinary teenager has to turn into a warrior just to survive? And can the journey through Post Traumatic Stress Disorder really become an “adventure?”

Amy had ambitious plans for college and a Broadway career, until her stomach exploded the week before her senior prom. Months later, she awoke from a coma to learn that she might never be able to eat or drink again. After years on IV nutrition, her first bite of food awakened her senses to life’s ordinary miracles but also brought back memories of being sexually abused by a trusted mentor for months, just before the unexpected rush to the emergency room that fateful Passover night. With determination, imagination, relentless resilience, and an inner “hunger” for life, Amy created a roadmap where none existed. Her journey through life’s unthinkable detours is nothing short of miraculous, but the creative path to healing she forged is accessible to anyone. As a survivor—and “thriver”—of abuse and extensive medical trauma, Amy discovered sources of resilience she didn’t know she had but it turns out we all possess. In this book, she creates a tapestry made from each of each thread of her journey, empowering others to find gratitude in every setback and discover their own infinite inner strength. Amy’s search for “home” proves to be the greatest test of cultivating resilience after near-death, and reclaiming identity after both sexual assault and medical trauma. Amy’s journey is ultimately a celebration of ordinary and extraordinary challenges and miracles.

In this coming of age story, Amy shares her struggles and discoveries living with both visible and invisible illness, the tremendous gifts to be reaped from trauma, its lessons which have illuminated her path, and how these gifts can be discovered as a unique, yet universal way to navigate any kind of uncertainty.

Interwoven through her remarkable story are insights on navigating any kind of uncertainty, including:

• What is a “detourist”– and why is it important to take those detours?

• The importance of detours for college students

• How to transition from being a “survivor” to a “thriver”

• Amy’s” Four Hardcore Skills” to resilience

• Finding your own uniqueness not through what’s happened to you, but what you choose to do with it

• The power of art to heal

• Our innate ability to be artists, and why creativity is an essential mindset

• How sharing your story becomes imperative to healing

• How humor is a way through

• Turn messes, mistakes and setbacks into creative detours

My Beautiful Detour offers practical strategies for individuals and unexpected tools for the families of trauma survivors, helping communities build new, limitless futures. The book includes numerous “trauma insights,” and is enriched with humor, art, poetry, and useful takeaways for readers. Reading one woman’s heroic adventure through trauma, recovery, and discovery of new directions in healing the body and the mind is an empowering tale of not just getting through, but thriving

Review:

Amy Oestreicher, a girl who in her senior year at High School who through no fault of her own ended up being that ill her stomach exploded. Literally.

When she finally awoke from the coma she fell into, not only did she learn that she no longer had a stomach, but she could possibly never eat again.
After years of being on IV nutrition she is finally able to try to consume food, but in doing this reawoke memories of being sexually abused by her singing mentor.

Told from accounts taken by Amy and her family, as the book progresses we see an Amy that does not quit, despite all the hardships that are thrown at her. Who never loses hope despite how hopeless the situation becomes. The support of her family is superb and despite never meeting them I do feel as though I know them connecting through the memoir.

This is a truly inspirational story to never give up despite the odds, that I recommend everyone to read

Ryan Willis has spent years in the protection business, a job that requires constant vigilance and quick thinking. His only chance to truly relax is at his secluded cabin in a small town where there are never any surprises. So when Ryan returns after an assignment and encounters a beautiful stranger, he isn’t only surprised, he’s also instantly intrigued.
Hannah Bright is a breath of fresh air, and Ryan is soon completely consumed, unable to stop from falling for her. As the two grow closer, his instinct tells him something is amiss. Yet nothing could prepare him for what he discovers when he starts digging into her past.

Hannah spends her days painting, running her arts and crafts store…and hiding too many secrets. It’s why she won’t let the ruggedly handsome bodyguard get too close. But their chemistry is undeniable, and Hannah quickly finds herself caught up in a whirlwind romance with Ryan. He is peace personified, a balm to her battered soul. Yet the gorgeous, captivating man who has swept Hannah off her feet doesn’t even know who she really is. And the moment he finds out, both their lives are at risk

Review:

As you would expect from a Jodi Ellen Malpas novel, this is a rollercoaster of emotions, one that will leave you breathless.

We meet our characters at a time if personal change, where they’re taking life into their own hands and making the best of it. I read this at a time that for me, on a personal level was also taking my life into my own hands. Preparing to take a huge risk in my career, reading Hannah and Ryan’s story only emphasised the importance of following your own heart. Here are two beautiful characters, both physically and spiritually, who draw you into their own little paradise.

Whilst they create a haven for each other, JEM has done just that for her readers. Letting us take a nose dive into her vivid and brilliant imagination, so that we can explore these relationships without even leaving the house. It is the love she has as a writer for these characters that draws you, that wraps you up in their bubble and makes it so you never want to leave.

I laughed, I cried, I swooned and I fell hard for these characters. And not just Ryan and Hannah but the other characters as well. Because one of the things I love about JEM is that she knows how to create the best side characters, the funny roommate and quirky neighbour. No matter what happens in one of her novels, it is the characters that compel me the most.

I loved getting to know Ryan and Hannah, the dual narrative of the novel working very well at balancing the story out. Hearing both sides of the story, witnessing their descent into the never ending world of JEM was pure selfish indulgence. Because reading this book, at time when your personal world feels in chaos, was the perfect anchor in the storm. An escape from the stresses of everyday and getting lost in the “wonderland” that JEM creates.

I cannot wait to add the paperback to my JEM shelf on my bookcase, it is the perfect addition.

You would do anything for your family. Wouldn’t you?

A gripping crime thriller, perfect for fans of Peter James.

‘Writes with raw, engaging, authenticity’ Peter James

The real nightmare begins when the missing person returns…

PC Gareth Bell is about to arrest a cocaine dealer on Brighton Marina, when he makes a shocking discovery that turns his world upside down: the dealer is his long-lost brother, Jake, someone he thought had died years ago.

But their reunion is short lived. For Jake is on the run from a cold-blooded killer, whose network reaches all the way into the police force itself. Now that his brother’s life is on the line, Bell has only two choices. Family, or duty?

Review:

PC Gareth Bell is on a job when he discovers that one of the people he is about to arrest is his brother, Jake, who disappeared 10 years ago and was assumed dead.  Unfortunately there is no time for a brotherly catch up as Jake is on the run not just from the law but from some very dangerous people who have a very far reach. Can he save his brother and do his duty? Or will he have to sacrifice one for the other?

When I picked this book up I wasn’t sure what to expect, but found I could not put it down! Each time I tried to take a break (tea, bedtime) it dragged me back into the fold. I really felt for Gareth, just as he was progressing with one thing, something else cropped up that needed attention. The characters were well described that I felt a familiarity with them. I felt the highs and lows with them to the point I had tears in my eyes at certain parts.

This was the first book by Paul Greg I have picked up and will definitely not be the last. I found this a really fast paced thriller that I could not stop reading!

#BlogTour | THE DESIRE CARD by Lee Matthew Goldberg @LeeMatthewG (February 21st 2019) @BlackthornTours

Thank you very much to Isobel @ Blackthorn Book Tours and Lee Matthew Goldberg for providing a copy of the book to [K]

The review below is 100% honest and all of her own views.

Blurb:

Any wish fulfilled for the right price. That’s the promise the organization behind The Desire Card gives to its elite clients – but sometimes the price may be more menacing than anyone could ever imagine.

Harrison Stockton has lived an adult life of privilege and excess: a high-powered job on Wall Street fuels his fondness for alcohol and pills at the expense of a family he has no time for. Quite suddenly all of this comes crashing to a halt when he loses his job and at the same time discovers he almost certainly has only months left to live. Desperate, and with seemingly nowhere else left to turn, Harrison activates his Desire Card. What follows is a gritty and gripping quest that takes him from New York City to the slums of Mumbai and forces him to take chances, and make decisions, he never thought he’d ever have to face. When his moral descent threatens his wife and children, Harrison must decide whether to save himself at any cost, or do what’s right and break his bargain with the mysterious group behind The Desire Card.

Review:

Harrison is a man on a mission, from college he knew what he wanted. A high powered job, wife, family and the good things in life.  But unfortunately this high powered job whilst has given him the good things in life has also taken it over. No time for his family, he lives a life of excess, too much work, gluttony and lust for women, drugs and alcohol. When he gets sacked from his job, then discovers due to his lifestyle he only has a short time left to live, his severance package from his company includes the mysterious Desire Card.

What would you do if you had a card that could grant your every desire?Would you use it? Would you not? Would you think this is just a joke?Would you wonder what the catch is? Would you wonder about consequences?
These are the questions I was asking myself as I read this book. For starters I would like to think I’d never get myself into Harrison’s situation at all, but if that opportunity of a card that granted your desires appeared would I use it?

Despite not warming to Harrison, I did feel for him, sacked from his job, living with a disassociated family because of his lack of involvement in their lives due to his previous long hours at work, finding he only has a short time to live due to illness, he wants to live. But after a life of excess and entitlement he feels the way to do this is the way he’s gone about most things, throw money at it. When this doesn’t work, he finds himself in Mumbai on the search of his second chance.

I kept reading waiting for Harrison to have his epiphany and to stop leading such a hedonistic lifestyle of excess. Not to give too much away but things do change for Harrison where he has to make some very hard decisions. But will he make the right choices?

I found I was hooked from the first page and struggled to put this down as with each page turn I had to find out what happened next. This was my first book by Lee Matthew Goldberg but definitely will not be the last. Cannot wait for PREY NO MORE!

The body of a young woman is found in the marshes of L.A.’s Ballona Creek. As with most murders Detectives John Testarossa and Alex Ortiz are asked to solve, this one makes no sense.

When a second body is found, and then a third, the only thing the young victims have in common is that, as children, each went missing for four nightmarish days.

And then they were released. Alive.

As more dead women turn up, the detectives must navigate some of the city’s darkest history while racing to save the next potential victim and get into the mind of a killer who keeps coming back for more.

As the truth comes together, Testarossa collides with an evil like he has never known and risks losing all he holds dear in the process, including the one woman he can’t seem to forget.

Review:

When a woman turns up dead, John Testarossa has his hands full. Especially when the body count starts rising. The connection to these women are that they were abducted as children and then released after a horrendous 4 days. Is it the same killer that has come back to finish the job he started all those years ago?

After reading being introduced to John in Testarossa I jumped at the chance to read book 2. I needed more of these characters!

Whilst investigating the murders with his partner Alex Ortiz, John tries to find and win back the beautiful Dr Karen Gennaro. John is introduced to his local neighbourhood watch at the encouragement of two elderly residents in the area. I loved that Testarossa’s character is developed in this book, we learn more about what makes him tick and his thought processes. We see more of Karen and Alex, whilst being introduced to other new characters.

I cannot wait to see if there will be more books in this series.

They’re called one-night stands for a reason. If you’re lucky, there’s a lot of mind-blowing sex and then you never have to see or speak to the person again. It’s fun and uncomplicated. In my case, Bash hightailed it to the airport the next morning so I definitely never expected to run into the former prospect for the Charon MC again. But when his mother passed, he dragged his pipes all the way from Texas to New York, and now he’s crashing at the Satan’s Knights clubhouse. Which also happens to be where I work and the scene of our one-night crime. If I thought forgetting the orgasm champ was hard before, it just became damn impossible.

Grief can shake a man, make him question his whole damn life and have him taking chances he never thought he’d take. Chances like moving to Staten Island, New York. Chances like prospecting for a new club. Chances like being around a certain fiery bartender who has been in my head since we shared one incredible night. Even though I should be completely focused on earning my colors, there’s a part of me that wants to chance chasing Lydia Gallo for more than one night. I want to break down her walls and uncover every one of her secrets…patch be damned.

*Editorial note: Shifting Gears is the first book in the Satan’s Knights Prospect Trilogy and is a spin-off from Khloe Wren’s Charon MC universe. It can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.*

Review:

Bash decides given his current circumstances he will have a change of scenery going back up North to see how he fits with the Satan’s Knights. He knows them after he was sent there by his previous MC club helping them with an issue and it was there where he met Lydia.

Lydia just wanted a one night stand, she never expected to see Bash again, and now it is looking like he will be around for a while things could get awkward as she was never and still isn’t looking for a relationship.

We first meet Bash and Lydia in Losing Bash, and it just gets better from there. We learnt about Bash’s background previously and in this book it is Lydia’s turn. The more of her past that is revealed it shows what a strong and independent character she has had to become. I love the chemistry between the two, and the wealth of characters that are introduced along with them.

After reading Losing Bash I jumped at the chance of reading this book. Whilst it can be read as a standalone I do recommend reading the previous book to get the full experience.

I am definitely finding this an addictive series!

Madman’s Cure is book 2 of the Madman Duet and should be read after Madman’s Method.

Review:

I FINALLY got my hands on book 2 so I can read what happens next!

After the bombshell of the previous book, this second story in the Madman’s Duet gaps in Cassandra’s past are filled in, but this book mainly centres around Eudard and how his life shaped who he became.

As with book 1 this was continued to be told by different points of view, well paced and cleverly written. I felt the euphoric highs and tear jerking lows with the characters when reading about Eudard’s heartrending story and willing Cassandra to stay strong as her story continues. Wishing them both to survive and beat the increasing odds against them.

In this book there are new characters introduced and some old faces are reappearing. Whilst this is a duet, there are stories for some of the other characters which I will investigate soon.

This was a brilliant climatic end to a fantastic duet, if you live for a dark romance make room in your reading schedule as these books will not let you go.
