When Anna Flores’ adored older sister goes missing as a teenager, Anna copes by disappearing too, just as soon as she can: running as far away from her family as possible, and eventually building a life for herself abroad.

Thirty years later, the death of her mother finally forces Anna to return home. Tasked with sorting through her mother’s possessions, she begins to confront not just her mother’s death, but also the huge hole Gabriella’s disappearance left in her life – and finds herself asking a question she’s not allowed herself to ask for years: what really happened to her sister?

Thank you so much to Annabelle at ed public relations for gifting me an early copy of THE MISSING GIRL!

I am really looking forward to reading this book. The blurb alone has grabbed my interest already and sounds exactly the type of book I need in my life right now!

Looking forward to sharing my review as part of the blog tour when it hits in January!

Ran McGhie’s world has been turned upside down. A young, lonely and frustrated writer, and suffering from mental-health problems, he discovers that his long-dead mother was related to one of Glasgow’s oldest merchant families. Not only that, but Ran has inherited Newton Hall, a vast mansion that belonged to his great-uncle, who appears to have been watching from afar as his estranged great-nephew has grown up.

Entering his new-found home, he finds that Great-Uncle Fitzpatrick has turned it into a temple to the written word – the perfect place for poet Ran. But everything is not as it seems. As he explores the Hall’s endless corridors, Ran’s grasp on reality appears to be loosening. And then he comes across an ancient lift; and in that lift a mirror. And in the mirror … the reflection of a woman …

A terrifying psychological thriller with more than a hint of the Gothic, House of Spines is a love letter to the power of books, and an exploration of how lust and betrayal can be deadly…

I’m looking forward to sharing my review with you for HOUSE OF SPINES when the blog tour hits our page on 29th September. Until then, be sure to check out the other blogs on the tour;

Long ago my beloved Nanny Eve chose my name. Then one day she stopped calling me it. I try now to remember why, but I just can’t.’

Thirty-one-year-old Catherine Hope has a great memory. But she can’t remember everything. She can’t remember her ninth year. She can’t remember when her insomnia started. And she can’t remember why everyone stopped calling her Catherine-Maria. With a promiscuous past, and licking her wounds after a painful breakup, Catherine wonders why she resists anything approaching real love.

But when she loses her home to the deluge of 2007 and volunteers at Flood Crisis, a devastating memory emerges … and changes everything. Dark, poignant and deeply moving, Maria in the Moon is an examination of the nature of memory and truth, and the defences we build to protect ourselves, when we can no longer hide…

As much as I love to read crime fiction, I do like to change it out from time and time and venture into horror, romance, YA…just something different. Orenda Books don’t just produce great crime fiction.

Louise Beech is a great writer and her previous novel; THE MOUNTAIN IN MY SHOE received nothing but great reviews so I am more than keen to get stuck into her new novel (which of course has already received fantastic reviews and has been tipped in some press as their top reads for September!)

I am beyond thrilled to be a part of this blog tour! Be sure to check out the blog page on 23rd September for my full review. Make sure you check out the other awesome bloggers on the tour!

#BookTag | #GoodreadsMonday 11/09/2017 |THE SNOWMAN by Jo Nesbo (November 6th 2014, Vintage Books @vintagebooks)

Title: THE SNOWMAN (Harry Hole #7)
Author:
Jo Nesbo
Publisher:
Vintage Books
Publication Date: November 6th, 2014 (First Published in 2007)

Screen Shot 2017-09-01 at 13.08.22

The night the first snow falls a young boy wakes to find his mother gone. He walks through the silent house, but finds only wet footprints on the stairs. In the garden looms a solitary figure: a snowman bathed in cold moonlight, its black eyes glaring up at the bedroom windows. Round its neck is his mother’s pink scarf.

Inspector Harry Hole is convinced there is a link between the disappearance and a menacing letter he received some months earlier. As Harry and his team delve into unsolved case files, they discover that an alarming number of wives and mothers have gone missing over the years. When a second woman disappears Harry’s suspicions are confirmed: he is a pawn in a deadly game. For the first time in his career Harry finds himself confronted with a serial killer operating on his turf, a killer who will drive him to the brink of insanity.

It’s never ideal to bounce around a series, as you can lose key moments which really are integral to the development of plots and characters. However, when you hear that a movie based on this book is due out pretty soon staring that there Michael Fassbender – jumping around a series is certainly justified!

THE SNOWMAN is the seventh book in the Harry Hole series. I have only read the first book; THE BAT so far and I was blown away by the writing style and how the story grabbed me from the first page. I have heard great things about THE SNOWMAN, so I cannot wait to get stuck in!

In a city that is already volatile, tensions mount  after a Tory MP in Bradford Central is discredited leaving the door open for the extreme right-wing candidate, Graeme Weston, to stand in the resultant by-election.

However, Graeme Weston is not what he appears to be and with secrets jeopardising his political career, he must tread very carefully.

Meanwhile, a serial killer targets Asian men who lead alternatives lifestyles and metes out his own form of torture.

As DI Gus McGuire’s team close in, the deranged killer begins to unravel and in an unexpected twist the stakes are raised for Gus.

Are the murders linked to the political scandals or is there another motive behind them?

DI Gus McGuire and his team are back and this might be their toughest case yet.

I seem to be a little obsessed with books based in Bradford at the mo! I have STREETS OF DARKNESS to thank for that! So I was really keen to get involved with the latest DI Gus McGuire novel by Liz Mistry.

This is the third outing for this character – so I feel at a small disadvantage that I don’t have the full history and background to the characters, but in a weird way – I find that a thrill as I am constantly asking questions. I’m really keen to get stuck and let you know how it all unfolds.

I’m looking forward to taking part in the blog tour when it hits the blog on 4th September. Make sure to check out the other great blogs that are also taking part on the tour below;

Publication Date: July 13th 2017

There are some surprises that no-one should ever have to experience. Standing over the body of your beloved – and murdered – niece is one of them. For Detective Inspector Harry Virdee, a man perilously close to the edge, it feels like the beginning of the end.

His boss may be telling him he’s too close to work the case, but this isn’t something that Harry can just let lie. He needs to dive into the murky depths of the Bradford underworld and find the monster that lurks there who killed his flesh and blood.

But before he can, he must tell his brother, Ron, the terrible news. And there is no predicting how he will react. Impulsive, dangerous and alarmingly well connected, Ron will act first and think later. Harry may have a murderer to find but if he isn’t careful, he may also have a murder to prevent.

I was far too excited after STREETS OF DARKNESS to learn that A.A.Dhand already had another book due for release; GIRL ZERO. This is the second book which features Harry Virdee and in my home town of Bradford.

There is something always quite exciting about reading a book that is set in your home town and you recognise the locations used! The expectation is high, but after reading early reviews – I don’t think I will be disappointed!

BEFORE ‘PRIME SUSPECT’ THERE WAS TENNISON . Every legend has a beginning . . . During 1974 and 1975 the IRA subjected London to a terrifying bombing campaign. In one day alone, they planted seven bombs at locations across central London. Some were defused – some were not.Jane Tennison is now a fully-fledged detective.

On the way to court one morning, Jane passes through Covent Garden Underground station and is caught up in a bomb blast that leaves several people dead, and many horribly injured. Jane is a key witness, but is adamant that she can’t identify the bomber. When a photograph appears in the newspapers, showing Jane assisting the injured at the scene, it puts her and her family at risk from IRA retaliation.

‘Good Friday’ is the eagerly awaited date of the annual formal CID dinner, due to take place at St Ermin’s Hotel. Hundreds of detectives and their wives will be there. It’s the perfect target. As Jane arrives for the evening, she realises that she recognises the parking attendant as the bomber from Covent Garden. Can she convince her senior officers in time, or will another bomb destroy London’s entire detective force?

Confession time – I haven’t read any of the Prime Suspect series by Lynda LaPlante!! My first venture into her writing was with TENNISON. The blurb grabbed my attention straight away – a young Jane Tennison, straight from police training, 1970s London. I was HOOKED! I loved the story, the action, the drama – TENNISON had it all!

So imagine how I squealed when Bonnier Zaffre contacted me asking if I would like an early copy of the third book in this series; GOOD FRIDAY!!! I cannot wait to get stuck into this. The blurb has grabbed me already and I can already tell that I am going to be taken on a rollercoaster ride!

#BookTag | #GoodreadsMonday 07/08/2017 |TO KILL THE PRESIDENT by Sam Bourne @Freedland ‏(July 4th 2017, Harper Collins UK @HarperCollinsUK)

Title: TO KILL THE PRESIDENT
Author:
Sam Bourne
Publisher:
Harper Collins UK
Publication Date: July 4th 2017

34524050

A blockbuster thriller from No.1 Sunday Times bestselling author Sam Bourne, in which Maggie Costello uncovers an assassination plot to kill the tyrannical new president.
If a president is out of control, who will take the ultimate step?

The unthinkable has happened. The United States has elected a volatile demagogue as president, backed by his ruthless chief strategist, Crawford Mac’ McNamara.

When a war of words with the North Korean regime spirals out of control and the President comes perilously close to launching a nuclear attack, it’s clear someone has to act, or the world will be reduced to ashes.

Soon Maggie Costello, a seasoned Washington operator and avowed liberal, discovers an inside plot to kill the president and faces the ultimate moral dilemma. Should she save the president and leave the free world at the mercy of an increasingly crazed would-be tyrant or commit treason against her Commander in Chief and risk plunging the country into a civil war?
Looking at this cover, I picked up this book on a recent trip to Waterstones, but soon put it back as I had limited funds and a list as long as my arm of books that I ‘needed’ (First world problems for any bookworm!). But after listening to the author in an interview on BBC Radio 2, I decided that I HAD to have this book and shortly after purchased a copy!

Listening to the author explain his background, how the book came about and the subject matter of the book – I know I am going to enjoy this book. Well I do hope so. The expectation is now pretty high!

She Loves Me
A woman’s body lies in the road. At first it looks like a tragic accident. But when Helen Grace arrives on the scene it’s clear she’s looking at a coldblooded killing. But why would anyone target a much-loved wife and mother?

She Loves Me Not
Across town, a shopkeeper is killed while his customers are left unharmed. But what lies behind the killer’s choices?

She Loves Me
Who lives? Who dies? Who’s next? The clock is ticking.

She Loves Me Not
If Helen can’t solve this deadly puzzle then more blood will be shed. But any mistake and it might be her own …

Helen Grace, now back at Southampton Central following her release from prison, is first on the scene.

A break neck thriller which takes place in real time over 24 hours, this is the sharpest, most adrenliased Helen Grace thriller yet.

Oh my lamb. This book has been in my life for too long now and I still haven’t had chance to sit and devour it. I think I am sub-consciously holding off as I know that I will essentially stop ‘adulting’ for 24 hours. How my other half will cope without me I’ll never know. I’ll be sure to leave him a packed lunch and a ‘to-do’ list!

LOVE ME NOT is the seventh book in the Helen Grace series. A series that for me has gone from strength to strength. So much so that I made my other half take me to the local supermarket under the bribe I would cook him a full English to get my copy of HIDE AND SEEK when the paperback was released last December!

The little town of Castle Rock, Maine has witnessed some strange events and unusual visitors over the years, but there is one story that has never been told… until now.

There are three ways up to Castle View from the town of Castle Rock: Route 117, Pleasant Road, and the Suicide Stairs. Every day in the summer of 1974 twelve-year-old Gwendy Peterson has taken the stairs, which are held by strong (if time-rusted) iron bolts and zig-zag up the cliffside.

At the top of the stairs, Gwendy catches her breath and listens to the shouts of the kids on the playground. From a bit farther away comes the chink of an aluminum bat hitting a baseball as the Senior League kids practice for the Labor Day charity game.

One day, a stranger calls to Gwendy: “Hey, girl. Come on over here for a bit. We ought to palaver, you and me.”

On a bench in the shade sits a man in black jeans, a black coat like for a suit, and a white shirt unbuttoned at the top. On his head is a small neat black hat. The time will come when Gwendy has nightmares about that hat…

For something a little different – I have bobbed GWENDY’S BUTTON BOX onto my TBR for July. A collaboration with Stephen King & Richard Crizmar, this is a short read, but that by no means takes away from the quality of the writing. I know that I am in for a treat!

That cover alone is enough to make anyone feel uneasy. I can’t wait to get stuck in!
