#MiniReviewMonday | #MovieMonday | DIRTY, SEXY, SAINT aired 2019 by Passionflix @PassionFlix | Original story by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde @carlyphillips @erikawilde1

Today we have a little something different for you, not a mini book review a film review. Enjoy!

Summary:

Clay Kincaid hates the nickname ‘Saint’, he got for being too kind to stray animals and desperate people. Especially when it comes to women. With a rough and damaged past that has left him jaded, he doesn’t do committed relationships. This is before he meets Samantha Jamieson, an heiress turned runaway in need of help. When she starts to work as a waitress at his bar, he discovers that she is someone truly special and amazing… someone that could warm his damaged heart.

Review:

Another novel, another PassionFlix adaptation and once again a novel I haven’t had the chance to read.

I really should read the novels before watching these adaptations, to give myself the background knowledge to appreciate the films more. With Dirty, Sexy, Saint we have a good story, a clear leading couple and plenty of action of the intimate variety.

The film is a good watch, no real emotional investment on my part personally due to not being familiar with the story but the actors work well with the material, the chemistry between them convincing on screen.

This is another film where we’re thrown into the story and watch as everything unfolds before us, never once doubting the pace of the plot. I felt like this film does have the potential to be fleshed out, as if more elements from the source material could have been used.

As with any film adaptation, its difficult to include every detail from a book, but this is something that all book lovers wish for when their favourites are being brought to life on screen. Again I’ve not read the novel Dirty, Sexy, Saint, so am unable to ascertain to any missing details but whilst I enjoyed the film, for me, this is one I’ll watch once and probably not pursue again.

Review:

PassionFlix have once again brought us an adaptation of a steamy novel and made it into one of their movies, giving us beloved characters in real life form. Whether or not you are familiar with this novel or PassionFlix, one thing is clear, the steamy scenes are not shied away from, at all.

I haven’t read the novel which this film is based on, so am unfamiliar with the story and characters. Generally the film established our leads quickly and efficiently. We were thrown into the story with gusto and learn the ins and outs of the plot. The actors work well with the script they’re given, the female lead in particular is excellent, talented and a very beautiful lady.

Overall this wasn’t one of my favourites from PassionFlix, the actors are great in the roles they inhabit but for me this is one film I don’t think I’ll be watching again. I am sure the novel is a great read and a trope of the genre, but the film hasn’t pushed me to pick up a copy of the novel.

Everyone has their own personal tastes, you will either love or hate a film adaptation from a beloved book, however this isn’t one I am invested in, not whole heartedly anyway.

Hats off to PassionFlix for having the guts to take on some fantastic novels and the actors and actresses playing these characters, because they really are taking on a whole heap of expectations from readers.

I’d say give this a watch if you want an easy, enjoyable movie with a bit of spice but for me, once was enough.

#MiniReviewMonday | #MovieMonday | DRIVEN mini tv series aired 2018 by Passionflix @PassionFlix | Original story by K Bromberg @KBrombergDriven

Today we have a little something different for you, not a mini book review a tv mini-series review. Enjoy!

Summary:

Colton Donavan lives on that razor-thin edge toward out of control. Whether it’s on the track or off of it, everything he wants is at his fingertips: success, willing women, media attention. Everything that is, but Rylee. She’s the exception this reckless bad boy can’t seem to win over. Her heart is healing. His soul is damaged. They both know the two of them could never work. But he crashes into her life without apology-disrupting her world, testing her boundaries, and uncovering the darkness of her past. Their chemistry is undeniable. Their attraction is magnetic. Their ability to help each other heal obvious. And even though he won’t let her in, there’s something about Colton she can’t walk away from. This is the beginning of their story. Their fight. Their perfectly imperfect love.

Review:

The Driven series by K Bromberg is a must read for any fan of contemporary romance. You want a handsome, bad boy with plenty of charm and a strong female lead with oozes of confidence, then the story of Colton Donovan and Rylee Thomas is just what you need.

I originally came across the series as an audiobook, because here at The P Turners we love books in any shape or form. It was whilst listening to the audiobook and later reading the novel on my Kindle that the streaming site PassionFlix started to advertise their mini series of the first novel. As mentioned we love books in all formats, so when PassionFlix announced the release of a number of novels to be turned into films or a mini series, this avid reader was beyond excited.

Book adaptations have been around for years, some not always good, others exceeding expectations. But for a book lover, especially one as critical as me, seeing how the story of Colton and Rylee played out on screen was a temptation I could not resist. Once I had finished reading I just had to watch.

Of course if you love a novel, there is always going to be some elements of the screen adaptation that you’re not 100% happy with, are the characters represented well, is the storyline compelling, is there chemistry between our lead actors? All these things that go on in the back of your mind whilst you devour someone else’s interpretation of a book. Because that is what this is, an interpretation of what someone else has taken from the same book you’ve read.

As with any form of media, we each take a different experience from what we’re consuming, see different representations and meanings behind a piece of art that the creator, in this case the author, has a totally different view off. In this case we’re seeing play out the tale of two characters that as a reader we’ve taken into our hearts, held them close and gone on this rollercoaster journey with.

I loved PassionFlix’s work on the mini series, bringing to life the steamy, undeniable chemistry between head strong characters and making them seem even more real. Sure we now this isn’t reality, just two actors pretending, but the test is in making the audience feel like it’s real. As much as there were parts of the book missing, as there always will be, here is a show that managed to pull me in, make me want to see this passionate relationship play out and fall slightly in love even more with the characters and actors.

One thing you can’t deny with any PassionFlix film or series, they take our favourite contemporary romance novels and where other adaptations may skip over the scenes we all love so much, it’s safe to say we get don’t get any rubbish fade to black or cut away here. Now that contemporary romance is the mainstream, we can finally enjoy all our favourite steamy romance novels in more ways than one.

This weeks movie is one of my all favourite military action movies….

G.I. Jane (1997)
Directed by; Ridley Scott

I can’t remember the first time I saw G.I. Jane, but it fast became one of my favourite movies! I remember I was younger, as watching a female lead up against the gruelling SEALS program made me enquire as to how I could enrol in the Army to become an infantry soldier. Sadly at the time, I received a response advising that females were not able to become infantry soldiers 😦 but I could still dream.

Demi Moore is one of the few females I have seen that can REALLY pull off a shaved head (Furiosa… I’m also looking at you!). When I mentioned to my other half once about shaving my head, I was met with laughter and a comparison of Puggsley Addams! Not sure my jaw line is sharp enough!

THIS scene is EVERYTHING!! I’m lucky if I can do ONE push up on bended knees! Demi Moore does them ONE handed and on top of chairs?!? WTF?!

With this line alone, Jordan is up there in my top 5 fictional heroines!

This weeks movie is one of my all time feel good movies….

INDEPENDENCE DAY (1996)
Directed by; Roland Emmerich

Can anyone remember The Britannia Club? I certainly can! My Nan used to order her VHS collection from them and when I used to visit, there would always be a new one waiting to be watched. Stargate, Waterworld…and this little beauty.

For starters – who can forget the images of the crafts entering the atmosphere and taking their positions across the earth?!

Then we have the attack sequence! At the time of first watching this movie I was only 9 years old and the graphics, the action, I loved and still love everything about this movie! For months, I would try and work out whether my town would get caught up in the attack. FYI – I would have been safe!

We then also have one of the greatest speeches I’ve ever heard in a movie! I still get goosebumps now listening to Bill! “WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT!!”

Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum gave me ALL the feels in this movie. Yes – some may argue that Independence Day (or ID4 to us geeks!) is a cheesy alien invasion movie…and maybe it is, but I love every minute of it! I don’t think there’s one day that goes by where I don’t quote the movie in some form. I’m THAT cool.

We then have this face….. ’nuff said.

This weeks movie is one of my all time feel good movies….

FORREST GUMP (1994)
Directed by; Robert Zemeckis

forrestgump

This movie makes me cry EVERY single time I watch it. It gives me so many emotions; happy, sad, overwhelmed, love, anger and loads more that I can’t think of right now!

fggif1

I am drawn to Forrest from the very get go. People had already decided that he was a simple man, with a low IQ and not many complex emotion. But he is so much more than that to. He is sweet, caring and intelligent in his own way and I always spend the whole movie wanting to hug him!

fggif2

Behind all of the stories we hear throughout the movie – the one thing that touches me the most is Forrest’s relationships with the most important people in his life. Jenny, Bubba, Lieutenant Dan and his Mum.

fggif3

This movie gives me life!

This weeks movie is a live action re-telling of one of the most infamous Disney movies ever released; BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (2017)
Directed by; Bill Condon

Beauty-Beast

This remake of the Disney classic, for me, really brings the magic to life!

giphy2

You can appreciate the real chemistry between Belle and the Beast. It’s so much more than the animated original.

This movie left me with nothing by warm and fuzzy feelings when I finished watching it!

This weeks movie is one of my Top Five of ALL time…

TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY (1991)
Directed by; James Cameron

When I was a nipper, we had a small collection of VHS tapes, mostly all of them ex-rental purchases from Ritz video! (Am I showing my age yet?!) Among such classics like Aladdin, Back to the Future: Part Three (no idea why we didn’t have the first two!) and Total Recall, we had Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

tumblr_nqf4o7NLAn1qj371wo3_250

Now at this point, I had never seen the first Terminator, so I was oblivious to the back story of Sarah Connor and Skynet. Thankfully the narration the sequel gave me enough insight.

giphy

I love literally EVERYTHING about this movie. From the characters, to the plot, the action, the chase sequences. EVERY THING!

giphy-1

Sarah Connor is and will always be my spirit animal. She is the only female I think I truly look up to. She’s strong, sensitive, puts others before herself. She’s a warrior.

This weeks movie is a favourite of my other half (Adam) and mine. We saw this when it was first released in IMAX 3D. The visuals. The audio. Story aside…it’s a stunning movie to watch!

TRON: LEGACY (2010)
Directed by; Joseph Kosinski

Straight off. This is the SEXIEST Disney castle intro I have EVER seen! Just look at this still. Then search on YouTube for the full thing. SWOON!

Once we get through the introduction and a recap on the previous movie – Sam is accidentally transported into the same world his father still lives in.

giphy-2

As much as I try and repel technology, there is something to be said about how it can elevate a movie to visual perfection and TRON: LEGACY to me is a perfect example.

giphy

We only cried a little bit when we heard the sequel to LEGACY was not being made anymore 😦

This weeks movie is one of my all time favourite guilty pleasures….

THE DUFF (2015)
Directed by; Ari Sandel

THE-DUFF_QUAD_1-1

You may be wondering what the chuff a ‘DUFF’ is?

mae whitman GIF-source

Which Mae Whitman (yes, the same Mae Whitman who plays the Presidents daughter in Independence Day!) is certainly not by the way! If I was HALF as cool as her, I’d be a happy lady!

robbie amell GIF-source

I’m not usually a fan of American high school rom-coms, but this seems to tick a lot of boxes for me. Brilliant characters (Alison Janney plays Bianca’s mother and is HILARIOUS!), a great plot and has NOTHING to do with it starring Robbie Amell. Nothing at all. Nope. It’s ALL about the acting….

the duff GIF-source

This movie is based on the book of the same name. I read the book AFTER watching the movie and was taken back at how much the story had changed. But I enjoyed both regardless.

I’m also a sucker for a happy ending!
