Sought-after social media influencer Sara Vance, in recovery for a serious health disorder, is coming into her own, with a potential career expansion on the horizon. Despite the good news, her successful siblings (and their perfect spouses) have a way of making her feel like the odd one out. So, when her unreliable boyfriend is a no-show for a Florida family vacation, Sara recruits Luis Navarro—a gorgeous firefighter paramedic and dive captain willing to play the part of her smitten fiancé . . .

Luis’s big Cuban familia has been in Key West for generations, and his quiet strength feeds off the island’s laidback style. Though guarded after a deep betrayal, he’ll always help someone in need—especially a spunky beauty with a surprising knowledge of Spanish curse words. Soon, he and Sara have memorized their “how we met” story and are immersed in family dinners, bike tours, private snorkeling trips . . . sharing secrets, and slow, melting kisses. But when it’s time for Sara to return home, will their island romance last or fade with the stunning sunset?

You’ll judge me.
Hate me and tell me I’m wrong.
Refuse to see how my darkness is what she needs.
While I don’t particularly care about your feelings in the matter, and while I pursue her despite the wedding bells that rang for another, only I can see how she is drowning beneath mediocrity.
How many times must I remind her?
It can’t matter that I am the person who ruined her life.
The man who killed her father.
The constant shadow that watches her sleep.
The lover who prefers dirty alleyways to freshly laundered sheets
She’s mine. Always has been.
I’m the worst thing for her, yet I’m the only salvation she knows.
He had his chance to make her happy.

Things are about to get sticky…

Beefcakes, an all-new ”amazing and unforgettable” romantic comedy from Katana Collins, is available now!

9.11_Beefcakes

I might as well permanently add the label “Ex” to my name. I’m an Ex-Mr. Universe. Ex-Mr. Olympus. An Ex-Hollywood Stuntman. But no one from my small hometown cares anything about that. They only care that I’m the ex-boyfriend to the beloved Mayor’s daughter, Elaina Dyker.

And now, ten years later, I’m back, helping my siblings run my mother’s bakery while she takes on chemo. What should have been a routine cupcake delivery turns into utter chaos when the bachelorette party thinks I’m a stripper. And what’s worse? Elaina is the maid of honor.

But the meme about us sure went viral fast. My small hometown has become positively infested with tipsy bridesmaids looking for my erotic cupcakes.

Now Hollywood’s knocking again—and this time they want me and my ex, Mr. Beefcake and Ms. Prude, to star in a reality show.

It could solve all my problems—except her.

I arched my brow at her. “I bragged about knowing you so well…but man. I did not see this almond croissant massacre coming. What do you have against almonds? Or was it the amount of butter that offended you? Because as a fitness expert, let me tell you butter isn’t the enemy. Sugar is the enemy.” She laughed. “I, uh…I might have some anger management issues.” I took the bag from her and peeked in. There were knuckle marks against the outside of the croissant. Literal knuckle marks. I barked a laugh. “Elaina Dyker. Did you punch the croissant?” She laughed, pressing her lips together as though this would hide the fact that I saw her adorable little giggle. She brought her thumb and forefinger up beside her temple. “Maybe a little.”“Did you even try a bite?” She shook her head no. “I like my routine. I like my daily lunch of yogurt and almonds.” I made a face. Because she had to be exaggerating. Sure…she liked them. But having that same thing every day? Even chocolate cake every day would get tedious. “You can like yogurt and almonds but still indulge every now and then, you know.” I reached in and pinched off a piece of the smashed croissant, holding it out toward her lips. “C’mon. Live a little. I promise you, it is actually healthy, if that’s your concern.” Not that she needed to be concerned about that. “Almond flour. Gluten free. Grain free. Only two net carbs. The only sugar is the honey in the honey roasted almonds and the natural sugar in dates.” Her eyes grew wide at that and I knew I had hooked her. She reached out her hand to take the piece of croissant from me, but I pulled back. “Nuh-uh,” I teased. “We can’t have your fingers getting sticky. Might ruin that fancy suit you’re wearing.” She rolled her eyes, but parted her wet lips, her tongue peeking out just enough for me to place the croissant on top of. She moaned as soon as it hit her mouth, and her eyes fell closed as she slowly chewed and swallowed. “That’s…that’s healthy?” I nodded. “See? I’m not just a pile of muscles. I’ve got some talent, too.” Her head fell to the side. “I never said you weren’t talented. I just wish you wouldn’t show off quite so much of your other assets.” I grinned. “I thought you liked my assets?” “I do,” she answered absentmindedly, then immediately shook her head, realizing what she’d said. “I mean, I did.” KC - PhotoAbout Katana As an author and a story-teller, it is the lifeblood to which my ideas take flight. And I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Occasionally someone (ie – my husband) will try to secretly switch out my beloved regular coffee for decaf. I always know the difference. ALWAYS (I’m looking at you, SEAN). I am incapable of achieving the perfect ponytail. I’m dyslexic. I can never wear white without spilling on myself. And I’ve never read Pride and Prejudice (gasp!). When I was younger and stole my mother’s Harlequins to read beneath the covers with a flashlight (seriously, did we ALL do this? I think we did.), I wanted to read about the tough as nails heroine. The perfectly imperfect girl with quirks and attitude and sass. And the anti-heroes who were anything but “Prince Charming.” Forget the knight on a white horse… give me the bad boy on a motorcycle. So, now, I write those romance novels I craved to see on the shelves all those years ago—the sassy heroines. The badass heroes. I spend my days in the throes of my imagination, and am loving every minute of it. I can travel anywhere and become anyone I want to be. One day, I’m a mechanic in Boston and the next, I’m a vampire stripping in Las Vegas. Since penning my first novel back in 2012, I’m now an international author with 15 published books, in a wide range of contemporary romance genres–(Paranormal, New Adult, Small town, Erotic Suspense… you name it!). After living for a decade in Brooklyn, NY, I took the plunge and moved to beautiful (although kinda chilly) Portland, Maine. I now live full time in ‘Vacationland’ with a kind of mean cat, a mellow chihuahua, and a very NOT mellow lab-pittie mix. Oh, yeah… there’s a husband who draws comics somewhere in that mix, too. I can usually be found in a coffee shop with my nose in my laptop wearing fabulous (albeit sometimes impractical) shoes. I love connecting with readers and fellow sassy storytellers, so feel free to drop me an email at katana.collins@gmail.com or connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (@katanacollins). You can find a list of my available books over on my Bookshelf or if you’ve already read a book, it would make my day if you wrote a review! #BlogTour | #ExcerptReveal | ZODIAC by Anamaria Lonescu @ami2ro @CorylusB @Lovebookgroup #Lovebookstours

Hello and welcome to our spot on the Zodiac blog tour! Please scroll down for an excerpt.

Blurb:

When investigator Sergiu Manta is handed the investigation into a series of bizarre murders, he can’t sure what he’s getting involved in as he has to work with regular detective Marius Stanescu, who has his own suspicions about the biker he has been told to work with, and wants to get to the truth. The twists and turns of their investigation takes them from the city of Bucharest to the mountains of rural Romania, and back.

Excerpt:

Chief Inspector Marius Stanescu paced from one end of his office to the other, puffing smoke like a chimney. Anyone would expect that a senior post in the quiet police district of Sinaia, deep in the lush Prahova valley, packed with tourists for much of the year, would be as good as a session in a spa on the shores of Lake Amara. The truth was that most of the time it was a remarkably relaxed place for law and order. But every now and then something truly mind-boggling would crop up. He had never felt so frustrated in all of his twenty years of policing. Well, maybe that wasn’t quite true. There had been that case five years ago, when an old man murdered that Catholic priest.

At least, back then he had been allowed to get on with his job and catch the criminal. Now the situation was unbelievably complex and he had been forbidden from interfering in a case in his own back yard. Less than forty-eight hours ago, a government official by the name of Sebastian Modrogan had been found dead in his hotel suite. He appeared to be have been poisoned and his much younger fiancée was nowhere to be found. His team dug out some juicy details about the official’s private life, including that a year before his death divorce had put an end to twenty-five years of marriage. According to the tabloids, his young blonde chief of staff was the reason for him abandoning his wife. Bitter and ashamed, his former wife had hidden herself away in her home town of Voineasa.

He had been about to go for a trip up there himself to push the investigation forward when a heavyweight from Internal Affairs had marched into his office without knocking, flashing an ID that said his name was Branescu. The man had proceeded to slap a written order on his desk, confiscated the case notes and even the computer hard drives containing information about Modrogan’s death. The inspector had tried to protest, but he’d been ignored.

That’s why Marius was in his office, chain smoking in anger and frustration. Orders or no orders, he was a policeman and had no intention of backing off just because some officials were jittery about the way he carried out the investigation. But it looked like he had no choice. To hell with every one of them!

He got up and went to the filing cabinet in the corner of the room, took out a couple of files, felt for the bottle at the back and took a decent slug that helped dampen his fury. Back at his desk, he snatched the biggest envelope he could find, and stuffed the remaining case notes into it. In his haste to get the job done, he dropped a photo from the crime scene. He picked it up and took a look. For the life of him, he had no idea what this thing was all about, and most likely, he never would find out. He shrugged his shoulders and dropped the picture into the envelope with the other paperwork. Then he got up, yanked open the door and yelled.

‘Vasilescule, rise and shine!’

A young man in uniform appeared.

‘Somewhere down the hallway there’s a clown from the Internal Affairs Administration who looks like an undertaker,’ he said, handing him the envelope. ‘Hand him this and tell him that I’ll break his legs if he ever shows up again.’

About Corylus Books:

Corylus Book is a new venture aiming to publish fiction translated into English. The people behind the company have very different backgrounds, but what brings us together is a deep appreciation of crime fiction and a strong interest in books from countries that so have been under-represented in English.

It took a while before it turned out that everyone’s thoughts had been on similar lines – that we wanted to take a chance on presenting some of the great European crime fiction that wouldn’t normally make its way into English. With a mixture of language, translation and other skills between the four of us, it seemed the logical next step to take.

The first Corylus books are a pair of Romanian crime novellas, Living Candles by Teodora Matei and Zodiac by Anamaria Ionescu.

There’s more to come in 2020 – starting with Romanian novelist’s Bogdan Teodorescu’s Sword, a powerful political thriller that has already been a bestseller in Romania and in its French translation. Sword will be available in May and will be followed later in the year by the first of two books by Icelandic crime writer Sólveig Pálsdóttir. The Fox will be available in the second half of this year, followed by Shackles in 2021.

And there’s more to come, with a novel by Bogdan Hrib set partly in Romania and partly in the north-east of England, a second novel from Teodora Matei, and we’re talking to more exciting writers from across Europe about what we can do together…

The bestselling ’90s nostalgia time travel comedy

Jo’s world is about to change forever, and it’s about time

Her marriage is on auto-pilot, daughter hates her, job sucks and it’s not even Tuesday.

As Jo’s life implodes, a freak event hurls her back to ‘90s Los Angeles where, in a parallel universe, she’s about to hit the big time as a rock star.

Jo has to choose between her dreams and her family in an adventure that propels her from London to Hollywood then Glastonbury, the world’s greatest music festival.

Jo encounters a disgraced guru, a movie star with a fetish for double-decker buses, and the biggest pop star in the world… who just happens to want to kill her.

Back to Reality is a funny, heartwarming story about second chances, with a heroine to rival Bridget Jones and the rock n roll nostalgia of Keith A Pearson.

The novel from the Bestseller Experiment podcast presenters Mark Stay and Mark Desvaux. The Two Marks went to more gigs in the ’90s than in any other decade and are currently working on a time machine to see Prince in concert.

Blurb:

Jo’s life has become monotonous, a marriage that’s stuck in a rut, a daughter that hates her and a job that is a means to and end. A life very different to her dreams growing up.

An impossible meeting propels her back to the 90s where she has a chance to make her dreams come true. But does she want to give up her old life to a chance at the big time?

When I first started this audiobook I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was sorry to hear it end!

I loved the storyline, the characters and the way they interacted and the way the narrator told the story.

Whilst listening it actually made me laugh out loud at some really inappropriate listening times (in the quiet of the gym for example)

This is an audiobook I will definitely listen to again and hope have a readalong with the book soon

So it is with a mixture of expectation and anxiety that she has “waited for her ship to come home”. But what follows is an unexpected introduction into the ruthless world of international espionage.

Guest Post:

BEING AN AUTHOR!

For me, being an author is a satisfying and creative retirement ‘hobby’.  After a career in the media and communications world, involving frequent air travel and exciting business and technological challenges, I decided it was time to find a more sedentary way of life but one which still kept the brain cells ticking over. No doubt it was my early training as a journalist which has ensured that I continue to enjoy writing.

In the first instance, I was encouraged by my friend and colleague in the United States to help him with his prodigious output of academic books. Having a ‘tame’ editor to work on his often disjointed and error-strewn draft material, helped him to speed up his output which has expanded to over 50 books now in print – some of which now credit me as editor or co-author.

After proving my competence by working on these publications on subjects such as human spaceflight, the satellite communications business, safe cities and futurism, I have now ventured into the area of fiction for the first time.

It was revealing!  I discovered the freedom of using my imagination  – a complete contrast with the perpetual research and fact-checking associated with producing serious works written for a readership of experts in the field. It was therefore especially satisfying when one early advance reviewer of “The Russian Lieutenant” wrote:

Based on my flawless enjoyment of Marina’s thrilling adventure, I can happily award this book four stars.  I managed to read it in a couple of hours and learned about the Royal Navy, Russia’s GRU, MI5, MI6 and the inner workings of the media. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this incredibly gifted author.

When I set out on the first draft of this book, I discovered that my modus operandi was to have only a broad idea of the story I had in mind. I would then start each chapter with no more than a sense of continuity in my intended storyline, and then let my fingers keep up with my thoughts as the action developed. I found that I was drawing on my personal experiences to provide facts and descriptive passages and also in the development of the personalities of the characters I was creating.  At the same time, I found I was able to introduce the surprises, twists and turns expected in a spy thriller and intended to hold the attention of readers.

The result was the speedy production of chapter after chapter and the realisation to my surprise that my word-count was in thousands at each writing session!  From time to time, I reached a stage where I faced a self-created ‘fork in the road’ and to help me to decide which way to take the story I found that the best solution was to go out for a brisk countryside walk here in rural Dorset. This tended to clear the mind and enabled me to return to the narrative ready to move ahead.

Fortunately, the process of reviewing the first draft of my work did not lead to many corrections and changes – just a few improvements and typos to correct. This review stage also provided the opportunity to introduce a couple of well-disguised clues into the story so that a discerning reader could deduce the possible direction in which a sequel might go?

This, I discovered, is one of the pleasures of writing fiction.  The relationship with the hoped-for reader of a thriller is quite different from that with an academic or professional who might read a worthy tome on a scientific or business-related topic. Now I was attempting to ensure that my imagination and story-telling ability would be at least one step ahead of the reader at each stage of the book. Thereby, I would be encouraging the reader to not only read on to the next chapter – but hopefully to the next book!

Author Bio:

Peter Marshall was born in Wiltshire, educated at Trowbridge High School and began his professional life as a reporter with the Bath & Wilts Chronicle at the age of sixteen, a career which was interrupted by National Service when he joined the Royal Navy. Marshall gained an RNVR commission and served as a Sub-Lieutenant based in Portsmouth and Germany for two years, followed by seven years as a reserve officer.

He moved to Portsmouth and was Deputy Naval Correspondent for the Portsmouth Evening News before becoming a freelance reporter, representing most of the UK national press. He also worked for the BBC as a reporter on radio and TV before joining the BBC staff as a News Editor. He then moved to Visnews, a BBC subsidiary which provided TV news coverage for broadcasters around the world, where he became Executive Editor and then General Manager. During this period, he was elected as Chairman of the Royal Television Society in 1986.

At Visnews (which later became ReutersTV) Marshall played an instrumental and early role in developing the use of satellites for global news coverage, which led him to work in the United States for fourteen years, firstly with INTELSAT and then as President of Keystone Communications (now part of France Telecom’s Globecast network). While in the USA, he served as President of the SSPI (Space and Satellite Professionals International) and on his retirement, he was elected to the Society’s “Hall of Fame” in recognition of his pioneering role in the development of satellite services for international broadcasters.

In his retirement years, Peter Marshall has returned to his “roots” as a journalist, working as co-author and editor of numerous books related to the satellite and space industry with the acclaimed American space scientist and futurist Dr. Joseph Pelton. He went on to write two biographies and a travel book before turning to fiction and drawing on some of his past experiences for this, his first novel.

He now lives in Gillingham, Dorset, where he is currently busy working on a sequel to “The Russian Lieutenant” (as well as editing another biography!).

Lord Alexander Barnes is determined to bring a bit of English civility to the wild terrain of Emerson Pass. Using his own resources, the widower and father of five builds a schoolhouse and recruits a young teacher from the east to provide an education for both the adults and the children in his rapidly growing mining town. But when the lovely, and much younger than anticipated, Miss Cooper arrives in town, Lord Barnes finds himself providing more than just employment when the boarding house proves to be an unsafe accommodation for the school mistress.

As Miss Cooper takes a room in the Barnes’ home, the five Barnes children are delighted. They are sure Miss Cooper is the perfect woman for their lonely father. But when a friend of the Englishman turns up dead, the hope for progress in the untamed town seems immediately lost. Can Miss Cooper and Lord Barnes bring change to the closed-minded locals? And will their endeavor open their hearts to something more?

The first installment of USA Today bestselling author Tess Thompson’s historical romance series brings a touch of whimsy and an extra dash of mystery to Edwardian romance. Readers will fall in love with the courageous Miss Cooper and swoon for the magnanimous English Lord as they struggle to save their exciting new world at the turn of the 20th Century.

DARE YOU NOT TO SWOON FOR THESE TWO!

He lifted my chin and looked into my eyes. “Is it only the children you care for or is there room in your heart for me?”

My stomach was filled with sparrows, fluttering their wings. I plucked at the neck of my blouse; sure I was dreaming. “I feel a great many things. But you and I both know that’s all it can be between us.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re a lord and I’m a school mistress.”

“I don’t care anything about titles or circumstances. You’re beautiful and good and full of fire. How could I not fall in love with you?”

“It seems to me, Lord Barnes, that this wild country has made you wild.”

“The country hasn’t made me wild. I was born this way.” The corners of his mouth lifted into a brief smile. “This place is like me, wild and free. I listen to my own instincts, not those deemed by a society I don’t even believe in.”

He brushed his thumb across my jawline. I could hardly breathe. What would it feel like if that mouth pressed against mine?

“Do you know what my instincts are telling me to do right now?” he asked.

I shook my head as the muscles in my thighs tightened.

“They’re telling me to kiss you.”

My stomach did a full turn this time and my legs trembled. I couldn’t look away, drawn as I was to him as if an invisible force cleaved us together. I was an innocent when it came to men, but I knew the look of hunger when I saw it. This was not the appetite of an empty stomach but rather a craving only a man and woman could feel for each other. One in which there was only one single remedy. This was a tortuous beast of longing and desire.

“Have you ever been kissed, Miss Cooper?”

I nodded, dizzy. “Once.” And then he’d married my best friend and broken my heart.

“What happened to this fool who kissed you?”

“He married my friend the very next week.” Even after two years, my body remembered the shock when I’d heard the news. In an instant, I remembered the way a vast emptiness had crashed through me, leaving me in a tunnel of black in which there was no return.

“Why would he do such a thing?” Lord Barnes asked, his voice incredulous now.

“For the same reason you would,” I said. “He married someone with money. Someone from an important family.”

“I can marry whomever I please,” Lord Barnes eyes flashed with arrogance but also rebellion. “I have no one to answer to but God and my children. I’ll marry for love with no regard for anything else. What about you, Miss Cooper? Would you marry for love or money?”

“Love. Always love,” I said. “Even though I have only love to offer in return.”

“And what would make you love a man?” he asked. “If not money?”

“Kindness. Compassion. A curious mind.”

“What about a man with children?”

“I suppose it would depend on the children,” I said.

“This is a remote part of the country. Could you live here and be happy?”

“That would depend on the man.”

He smiled and ran the back of his finger over my cheek. “One worthy of your heart?”

“That’s right.”

“Would you allow me the chance to prove my worth?” he asked.

“How does one go about such a thing?” I asked.

“It starts with accepting that I care nothing about convention. I want you to be my wife.”

“Wife?” I gaped at him. Had I heard him correctly or had the lack of sleep rendered me delirious?

“Yes, Miss Cooper. I want you to be my wife and the mother to my children. If you’re willing, I’d like permission to court you. Will you deny me and break my heart?”
