Hoorah! We have made it to Hump Day 🙂 Time for another weekly book meme!

WWW Wednesday hosted by the lovely Sam at Taking on a World of Words

This challenge is pretty straight forward and requires only three questions answering;

  • Who is your daddy?
  • What does he do?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

THE SECOND SISTER by Claire Kendal

When I choose a new book to read, I turn to my other half and present him with three choices – he chooses by name only. Out of all the books he has chosen for me, only one has been ‘meh’. So when he presented me with THE SECOND SISTER for my birthday, I was keen to jump straight in.

So far, this is great! It doesn’t read as a conventional first person narrative. What Kendal has been able to do is create a novel, which reads as an open letter. Great concept and eager to share my full thoughts with you in the next few days!

Rather excited to be part of another Orenda Books blog tour! This time for the new novel by Kjell Ola Dhal; FAITHLESS.

Oslo detectives Gunnarstranda and Frølich are back and this time, it’s personal… When the body of a woman turns up in a dumpster, scalded and wrapped in plastic, Inspector Frank Frølich is shocked to discover that he knows her and their recent meetings may hold the clue to her murder.

As he ponders the tragic events surrounding her death, Frølich’s colleague Gunnarstranda investigates a disturbingly similar cold case involving the murder of a young girl in northern Norway and Frølich is forced to look into his own past to find the answers – and the killer – before he strikes again.

I am thrilled to be taking part in the upcoming Blog Tour for AFTER THE AFFAIR by Jonathan Kaye on 30th April.

“University Lecturer David Ryan is having an affair. And he thinks no-one knows.

He’s wrong. Someone does know. And that someone is out to blackmail him.

But when the blackmail attempt goes wrong, both Ryan and the blackmailer find themselves dragged into an underground (and decidedly seedy) world of secrets, lies and violence. A world where no-one can be trusted and everyone has something to hide.

Set in modern-day Dublin, ‘After the Affair’ is the debut psychological thriller from author Jonathan Kaye.”

I have been waiting SO long for this book to be released! Imagine my surprise when I discovered I had won an uncorrected proof copy…signed by Susan Wilkins herself! This definitely made me rather giddy!

THE KILLER is the next instalment in the series following Kaz Phelps. I highly recommend this series, but warn as with the Helen Grace series by M.J. Arlidge – these really do need to be read in order to fully understand the story, the characters and the relationships within.

I’m only about 100 pages into this book – but it’s already filled with action and drama! Looking forward to sharing my thoughts with you all.

After being in a bit of a slump for the past week or so – I decided to pick up an Audiobook AND a paperback to see if that can get my reading juices flowing again!

Firstly, the audiobook. COLE by Tijan

I shouldn’t have remembered him.

He was just a guy who walked through a restaurant. I didn’t know his name. We never made eye contact. There was no connection between us at all. But I could feel him.

The tingle down my spine. The command in his presence. The snap of tension in the air around him. That was the first time I saw him, and I was captivated.

The second time was different.

He was in the mysterious back elevator of my apartment building. Our eyes met for a fleeting second before the doors closed, and I was staggered. My breath was robbed. My senses on high alert. My body hummed. That was just the beginning.

He was the leader of the mafia. I was about to fall in love with him, and his name…

Then onto the paperback; WICKED GAME by Matt Johnson

2001. Age is catching up with Robert Finlay, a police officer on the Royalty Protection team based in London. He’s looking forward to returning to uniform policing and a less stressful life with his new family. But fate has other plans. A policeman is killed by a bomb blast, and a second is gunned down in his own driveway.

Both of the murdered men were former Army colleagues from Finlay’s SAS regiment, and a series of explosive events makes it clear that he is not the ordinary man that his colleagues and new family think he is. And so begins a game of cat and mouse in which Finlay is forced to test his long-buried skills in a fight against a determined, unidentified enemy.

THE ABATTOIR OF DREAMS by Mark Tilbury

The past is never far away.

Michael Tate has not had an easy life. With his father in prison, and his mother dead, Michael was sent to Woodside Children’s Home.

Now an adult, Michael wakes up from a coma in hospital suffering from amnesia and paralysis. Confused and terrified, he is charged with the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, Becky. He also learns he attempted to end his own life.

Detective Inspector John Carver is determined that Michael is sent to prison.

With no way of defending himself, Michael is left in his hospital bed awaiting transfer to remand.

But then strange things begin to happen and hischildhood comes back to haunt him.

Can Michael ever escape the past?

Will he ever discover the truth about Becky’s murder?

WHAT’S NEXT?

This month is BLOG TOUR crazy! So it’s of no surprise that my next read is part of another blog tour for Orenda Books and I am stoked (that’s right…I’m a 90’s American teen!) to be part of it!

SIX STORIES by Matt Wesolowski

The novel is constructed as a series of podcasts, in which an investigative journalist describes the circumstances around the death of a teenaged boy in an outward-bound centre, interviewing witnesses, suspects and people close to the incident. Their six accounts form the six stories of the title, creating a “chilling and compelling, page-turning thriller that also delves deep into notions of truth, perception and loyalty”

Not only am I looking forward to reading this book – but I am also VERY much looking forward to the audio book which is the first Audible production to use SEVENTEEN narrators!

CURSED by Thomas Enger

There will never be enough words to describe how much I loved this book. You can read my full review HERE as part of the #CURSED #BlogTour as hosted by Orenda Books

What secret would you kill to protect?

“When Hedda Hellberg fails to return from a retreat in Italy, where she has been grieving for her recently dead father, her husband discovers that his wife’s life is tangled in mystery. Hedda never left Oslo, the retreat has no record of her and, what’s more, she appears to be connected to the death of an old man, gunned down on the first day of the hunting season in the depths of the Swedish forests.

Henning Juul becomes involved in the case when his ex-‐wife joins in the search for the missing woman, and the estranged pair find themselves enmeshed both in the murky secrets of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families, and in the painful truths surrounding the death of their own son. With the loss of his son to deal with, as well as threats to his own life and to that of his ex-‐wife, Juul is prepared to risk everything to uncover a sinister maze of secrets that ultimately leads to the dark heart of European history.”

Quite simply one of the BEST books I have read so far in 2017. There is definitely a high expectation now for the remainder of this year!
