#BlogBlitz | #BlogTour | #BookReview | MY BEST MISTAKE (My Best Series #1) by Carole Wolfe @CaroleW30064418 (6th June 2019, Indie Published #IndieAuthor @BOTBSPublicity)

Welcome!! This is our stop on this Blog Blitz Tour for MY BEST MISTAKE, the first novel in the My Best Series by the wonderful Carole Wolfe.

I would firstly like to say a rather big thank you to the amazing bobby dazzler that is Sarah Hardy @ BookOnTheBrightSide and of course the awesome Carole Wolfe who gifted me an early copy of MY BEST MISTAKE. I am forever grateful and promise that the review below is 100% honest and of my own views.

To kick off, we have the “blurb” for the book;

A lawsuit, an ex-husband, and a hotel full of men. Just another crazy day in the life of a single mom…

Tasha Gerome tries to find the funny side of her everyday disasters. It’s just about the only thing that gets the single mother of twins through her chaotic life. Well, that and a comfy pair of piggy slippers. But not everyone appreciates her brand of humor…

Her deadbeat ex-husband certainly doesn’t get her jokes as he returns to town to bother her and the twins. A famous doctor threatens her with legal action over a misunderstanding. And her mother is more concerned with Tasha’s single status than her humor, dragging her kicking and screaming back into the dating game…

One thing is for certain. Fixing her legal troubles, getting rid of her ex, and finding a new man will take a whole lot of laughter… and a little help from her family…

My Best Mistake is a down-to-earth women’s fiction novel that celebrates a single mother’s courage and comedy. If you like sweet romance, snarky humor, and characters who tell it like it is, then you’ll love Carole Wolfe’s hilarious tale.

So, you want to know what I thought??

I was asked to review My Best Mistake as part of the blog tour and thought it sounded like something I would enjoy and I wasn’t disappointed.
Tasha’s life is a mess. Her house is so much of a mess the housekeeper doesn’t even want to hang around. The story starts off with her receiving a letter from her lawyer regarding a cease and desist which she believes has come from her ex husband but has actually come from the couple’s fertility doctor.

As we progress we find out that Tasha has won the lottery and is a multi millionaire and despite having to pay her husband out as part of their divorce settlement, Doug keeps crawling back for more but has no interest in their twin children, Libby and Blake, well more so Libby as he blames the fertility doctor for the fact that she is a girl.

Tasha has to swollow her pride and ask her lawyer sister for help. Whilst visiting the office she runs into her ex brother in law Brad and they rediscover a friendship that was never allowed to grow. As tensions between Tasha and Sara slowly begin to fade, Tasha begins to discover who she is as an individual and things with Doug don’t seem to be such a big burden.

I really enjoyed this book. Definitely a chick lit book (for want of a better description) about a woman who has forgotten who she is and I loved going on the journey of self discovery that Tasha partakes on. I loved all the little twists and turns that the book offered as it developed and found most of the characters relatable and likeable except of course Doug who seems to be so arrogant and up himself that I could have punched him several times over. I also loved how Tasha found a support network who have always been there but she has never allowed herself to rely on.

It was nice to read about a lottery winner but the story not all be about money, in fact the only time it’s really mentioned is in reference to Doug otherwise Tasha just seems to be a normal stay at home Mum trying to juggle lots of balls.

I feel like some of the characters can be further developed so was thrilled to learn that there is another book in the series about Sara. There definitely seems to be more to her story and I am looking forward to reading it in the future.

The story was really well written and I found it very easy to read and soon found myself flying through the pages. I would highly recommend this to people looking for a quick, chick lit kind of story that they can easily lose themselves in and don’t need to think too much about.

I’m sure Carole Wolfe is going to be an author I will read more of.

ON THE ROCKS (Kingston Brothers #1) by Isabel Lucero
15th August 2019 (Indie Published)

One taste will never be enough…

You learn a lot about people pouring their drinks and London is what I would consider a regular. Like clockwork, she’s been coming into my bar twice a week for the last year. Besides her name, I’ve learned that she’s witty, beautiful, and unfortunately… taken.

She’s in a relationship with a guy that I’m pretty sure doesn’t deserve her.
Respecting that is the only thing stopping me from figuring out the things I really want to know. Things like, what her body feels like against mine, or how she tastes on my tongue.

But one evening, everything changes. London comes in and tells me that they broke up. One drink leads to two, and she finally confesses that this attraction isn’t one sided. Our slow burn is about to get blazing hot.

I wasn’t just looking for a one-night stand, not with a girl like her.
But next thing you know, the ex is back. He’s in my bar, sitting next to her.

We try to act like there isn’t a connection between us.
Like our bodies weren’t made for each other and we didn’t set each other aflame with a single kiss.  Every time I look at her, I see the flash in her eyes that tell me she’s remembering it too. Re-living every delicious second of our time spent together on top of this very bar.

The problem is now that I know what she tastes like, I want more.
On the rocks. It’s how London prefers her drinks, and the current state of her relationship. And I’m about to shake things up, because I’ll be damned if I let her get away.

Reading this story I very quickly became enamoured with London and Royce. The clever use of both characters to narrate their story helped the reader understand situations from both perspectives and brought them more to life.

Royce is charming, handsome and all round good guy. He quickly cements himself as a great leading man, a player but not enough to put the reader off. It is his loyalty and love of his brothers that make even the hardened reader swoon.

London is a leading lady you can relate to, she’s smart, beautiful and coming to terms with her feelings for another man when already in a relationship. It is her big heart, fun and real friendships that ultimately wish you could be her friend.

The surrounding characters are well fleshed out, only adding to a very lovely story. Overall I loved this read, I wanted to read more, to see where things might go for the characters. Here’s hoping we get to revisit Royce and London in the future.

#RisqueReads | #BookReview | MR. MAYFAIR by Louise Bay @louisesbay (1st October 2019, Indie Published) #IndieAuthor

MR. MAYFAIR by Louise Bay
1st October 2019 (Indie Published)

It should be the most shocking news I’d ever gotten—My boyfriend is getting married.

Okay, technically he’s my ex-boyfriend. Two months ago he decided he wanted a break. I still thought he was my happily ever after.

On any other day, knowing he was gone for good would be the worst thing that could possibly happen.

But not today.

Because not only is my boyfriend getting married—his bride is my best friend.

And they’ve sent me an invitation.

There’s no way I’m going to attend. I don’t care if it’s in beautiful Scotland.

Nothing and no one could convince me.

Not even when a deliciously handsome stranger tells me he needs to go as my plus one.

Not even when he shoots me a wickedly, sexy smile.

But then he offers me the opportunity of a lifetime—a dream come true. How can I say no?

But I have one condition. He has to be my new boyfriend. I mean, my pretend new boyfriend.

I’m about to find out that faking it can be a whole lot of fun.

A stand-alone, contemporary romance.

MR. MAYFAIR is the newest release from one of our favourite authors here at The P Turners, the fabulous Louise Bay.

And boy what a read this novel is, you have everything you could want and some things you didn’t know you needed. Louise Bay is an author who knows how to create the best characters, leading ladies who you’d love to be friends with, the kind of women who build up other women.

Then we have Mr Mayfair himself, a fine specimen of man, who has all the qualities we’ve come to love from our leading men. Tall, handsome, cocky in just the right amount and leaving us truly smitten. The chemistry between Beck and Stella is off the charts hot, leaving the reader begging for more. We’re on a journey of self discovery with these characters, strapped in and ready for the ride. We want to know everything, to experience it all and the dual perspective of the novel allows us just that.

I could not stop reading, eager to lose myself in this wonderful world, where two beautiful souls come together and whisk you away. Louise Bay, thank you. For creating such amazing characters, for bringing them and their story into the world and allowing your readers to share in the love of them. Because it is clear from the beginning that here we have an author who truly loves, cares and treasures her characters.

Mr Mayfair is a true diamond in the rough.

#LettersFromTheHeart | #BookReview | Adam Loveday (Loveday #1) by Kate Tremayne (November 25th 1999, McArthur & Co. @McArthurCo)

ADAM LOVEDAY (Loveday #1) by Kate Tremayne
Published: November 25th 1999, McArthur & Co.

Adam Loveday is denied his inheritance of the family estate, Trevowan and his father’s boatyard through birthright. Fearful of his fathers growing disapproval however, his feckless elder twin, St.John, plots to ensure that Adam gains neither the boatyard nor the love of local Meriel Sawle.

When I finished the Poldark saga last year after enjoying it so much I was eager to find something similar to get stuck into. Along came my friend who recommended the Loveday series to me, I was a little nervous about starting another series that sounded so similar but Adam Loveday didn’t disappoint.

Not as well written as Winston Graham’s series and there are ALOT of similarities between both series but if you take it as it comes and try to forget Poldark and enjoy the Lovedays for who they are it really is very enjoyable.

Starting with Adam returning home after a trip to sea with the British Navy Adam is keen to get stuck into working at his family’s boatyard but comes up against his twin brother St John who by being born just a few minutes before Adam is set to inherit both the estate and the shipyard but doesn’t deserve it as he doesn’t want to put any of the hard labour into it. When Adam’s head is turned by a young inn keeper’s daughter Meriel, the twin rivalry makes another apperance resulting in St John being forced into marriage with Meriel.

Adam, like Ross, is very likeable. A man of character and rightfulness he stands up for who and what he believes in. I think he is quite strong minded and I am sure we will get to see more of that in future books. St John is a character that you dislike from the start. The jealously he holds for his twin brother is tangible and a big part of the story. He doesn’t seem to put any thought into his actions and many times throughout the story that backfires on him. He does redeem himself slightly when he does seem to genuinely love and care for Meriel. Meriel is a very dislikeable character and enjoys encouraging St John into the scrapes that he so often finds himself. She is very selfish and only thinks about how she can improve her status in life.

I have to include how annoying the name St John is – it is pronounced Sinjun but I have to remind myself so many times during the book because I was reading it was Saint John. It’s not a name I have ever heard before and it did take away from the story slightly.

Overall I did really enjoy this story and it will be a great replacement for the hole that Poldark left in my life. I am eager to continue the series and to find out where else the Lovedays will take us on their journey.

#BlogBlitz | #BlogTour | #BookReview | TURN THE OTHER WAY by Stuart James @StuartJames73 (8th February 2019, Indie Published #IndieAuthor @BOTBSPublicity)

Welcome!! This is our stop on this Blog Blitz Tour for TURN THE OTHER WAY by Stuart James.

I would firstly like to say a rather big thank you to the amazing Sarah Hardy @ BookOnTheBrightSide and of course the wonderful Stuart James who gifted me an early copy of TURN THE OTHER WAY. I am forever grateful and promise that the review below is 100% honest and of my own views.

To kick off, we have the “blurb” for the book;

Sometimes revenge is the deadliest game of all.

A derelict farmhouse in the Essex countryside.
A deranged family.
Innocent victims being picked at random.
If you’re chosen, Turn The Other Way.

Simon Bairstow is a top London Surgeon. He’s performed dozens of life-saving operations. But something goes horribly wrong. The machine Eve Johnson is attached to flatlines, and suddenly her parent’s world has collapsed.
They’re hell bent on revenge, someone to answer for the horrific error that’s been made.

Noah and Jess are driving on a busy dual carriageway and get stuck in traffic. They hear thumping coming from the back doors of the transit van in front of them. When Noah steps out onto the road, he hears muffled screams. He opens the back doors and what he sees shocks him to the core.
The van pulls off, spilling Noah onto the road.
Ignoring his wife’s plea to leave it, he hits the accelerator in pursuit of the van.

Chloe’s parents are missing. She hasn’t seen them since they left the party in Hampstead on Friday night. She needs answers, deciding to take matters into her own hands.

A serial killer is stalking the streets of Islington in North London late at night leaving his victims in a horrific way.
The press have dubbed him The Angel Attacker.

A terrifying tale of revenge with a twist that will hit you like a sledgehammer.

So, you want to know what I think?

TURN THE OTHER WAY starts with that age old question of what you would do if you saw someone in trouble? How far would you go? Would you be prepared to go all in and be a hero…or as the title suggests; TURN THE OTHER WAY?

Switching between the past and present, we learn not only how each of the victims play their part, but also how they fit into the bigger picture. A picture which is pretty frigging frightening when you get to the crux of the story! The pacing of the story kept me on my toes and I was kept guessing as to what would happen next.

This is one of those books that has you questioning everything around you! Watch your back………

About Stuart James;

I have always loved scary stories, especially ones that shocked me, left me terrified, looking under my bed or in the wardrobe before going to sleep.
There was just a fantastic buzz whenever I watched or read something that took my breathe away.I remember going to my nan’s house in Ireland as a youngster with my mother and sister, on the West Coast, staying in a cottage, surrounded by miles of fields and my family sitting around the table in the kitchen at night telling ghost stories. Going out and exploring derelict farmhouses in the middle of nowhere. I remember clearly the field at the end of the road was supposed to be haunted by headless nuns.My cousins often remind me of the great times we had, frightening each other and running for our lives whenever we’d see something that didn’t look right. This is why I love nothing more than to tell a story.

I started writing two years ago, penning The House On Rectory Lane.I got the idea from something that has often seemed scary to me. I know that a terrifying story has to be something that you’re frightened of doing, something that makes the hairs stand on the back of your neck, something that fills you with dread, yet also with excitement. To me, the thought of going to a house in the middle of nowhere, upping and leaving a busy town and moving to the country is something that scares lots of people and me: the seclusion, the quiet, the darkness. That’s what inspired me to write my first novel.

My second thriller is called Turn The Other Way.I have multiple stories running, past and present. A family who want answers from the surgeon responsible for their daughter’s death.A young woman looking for her parents after they go missing from a party.A couple driving home and hearing screams for help from the back of the van in front of them.A serial killer on the loose in North London, dragging victims off the street.
I’m so grateful when people not only read my thrillers but also take the time to get in touch and leave a review. To me, that is the greatest feeling, hearing from people that have enjoyed my work. I know then that I’m doing something right.

I’m currently working on my new thriller, Apartment Six, which should be released later this year.

I’m 45, married and have two beautiful children. Currently, I’m a full-time plumber but would love nothing more than to make a living from my writing. I hope I write stories and people continue to enjoy them for years to come. That would be completely amazing and a dream come true.

Never has a quote been so relevant to EVERY book worm around the globe (and further!). SO many books, but so little time! The same can also be said for book bloggers. We read that many books so we can share them with our audience, but we find ourselves short of time to write all our thoughts down in a comprehensive review.

This brings us nicely to ‘Mini Review Monday’. A place where, to compliment our current content, we can share with you some of our initial thoughts on books we have been reading over the last week.

DO NOT DISTURB (Deanna Madden #2) by A.R. Torre

This is the second book in A R Torre’s Deanna Madden trilogy.

Deanna is dealing with the results of her actions in book one, and the ongoing need to keep her secluded from the general public for their own safety.

This second book I found was a little slow to start with but it soon ramped up the pace along with discovering more about the other characters involved in Deanna’s life.

I am looking forward to reading book 3 and seeing how this trilogy ends, along with how the characters develop.

[K]

THE DIRT ON THE NINTH GRAVE (Charley Davidson #9) by Darynda Jones

Haha well given the synopsis on this book what can I say?

The way book 8 finished I could not wait to get my hands on to this next book in the series. I loved the way the storyline played out and Charlie was her brilliant self complete with snark. I did wonder how all the characters did what they did without having to worry about their bills and property (joys of a fantasy book I guess eh? Escape from reality!) and cannot wait to see what the next book brings.

If you like a strong female lead character who knows her own mind but can also have some really random moments this series is for you. Get yourself book 1 and be prepared to be hooked!

PRIDE & PREJUDICE by Jane Austen

This was read as part of the Ardently Austen Book Club being held on Instagram.

What can I say about this classic that has not already been said hundreds of times before?!

I found this a very enjoyable book, a faster pace and more drama (in my opinion) than Sense & Sensibility. This book wasn’t as wordy as her previous novel which I think helped with my reading pace and I had less of a struggle with the language used. I was wanting to read to find out what was going to happen with the characters next despite having other things pressing on my time. The characters were easy to follow and places visited were well described. I now want to watch the film to cement the story in my mind.

I have finally discovered why everyone has a soft spot for Mr Darcy and have developed my own for him ❤

MR ONE-NIGHT STAND by Rachael Stewart
21st February 2019, Mills & Boon

One night only.
Just think of the possibilities…

The second she sees Mr Oh-So-Delicious, Jennifer Hayes knows she needs one night of crazy. No names, no strings, no rules. Except that Jennifer’s naughty one-nighter is actually Marcus Wright—her new business partner!

Now they’re mixing business with all kinds of pleasure. But when it comes to falling in love her sexy Mr Wright is either Mr Wrong or the best mistake of her life…

I was sent this book in return for an honest review. Thanks so much to Mills & Boon and Rachael Stewart for my copy of MR ONE-NIGHT STAND.

Wow what can I say about this book? From start to finish, it was fast paced and full on, boom. I found this a very easy read and the story flowed really well. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters in the book, the main characters Marcus and  Jennifer were very well described.

Marcus is a typical Alpha male but knows who and what he wants without game playing and will not let anything get in his way.

Jennifer is a stunning redhead who knows her own mind, dedicated to her company and decides she just needs an itch scratching, a one night, no strings night of excitement, by who it turns out is her new company partner!

This is my very first Mills & Boon Dare book and the first book I have read by this author, but after reading this it definitely will not be my last. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book!

#ThrillerReads | #BookReview| THE GIRL NEXT DOOR by Phoebe Morgan @Phoebe_A_Morgan (February 21st 2019, HQ Stories @HQstories)

THE GIRL NEXT DOOR by Phoebe Morgan
Published; February 21st 2019, HQ Stories

One little lie just became deadly…

Perfect mother. Perfect wife. Jane Goodwin has spent years building her picture-perfect life in the quiet town of Ashdon.

So when the girl next door, sixteen-year-old Clare Edwards, is found murdered, Jane knows she must first protect her family.

Every marriage has a few white lies and hers is no exception. Jane’s worked hard to cover up her dark secret from all those years ago – and she’ll do anything to keep it hidden…

The gripping new psychological thriller from the author of The Doll House, the number one digital bestseller.

Well where do I even start with this book?!

It starts off with a young girl, from a well off area, being murdered and found on the meadow by someone the whole town is wary of. Written from several different points of view including the murdered girl, the next door neighbour and the investigating officer, I was completely gripped by this book as I tried to figure out where the story was going to lead and I LOVE books like that. I love trying to guess what the ending will be, although mostly I am completely wrong, it adds an element of fun to the book.

I figured that it wouldn’t be as obvious as it first seemed and that became more clear as the story progresses. I feel like Jane, the next door neighbour of murdered girl Claire, is the main narrator and you can tell from the offset that things are not quite what they seem in regards to her story but Phoebe had a knack of giving little tit bits that keep you on the edge of the seat. As Jane explains about her names, friends in the PTA and her husband as well as Claire’s family whose windows she can see straight into, you know that the saying “you don’t know what happens behind closed doors” is never more truer. I had the unfortunate experience of reading this on Pigeonhole so only got a stave per day and I struggled not being able to find out what happened next at the end of each section. It gets more and more excited as all the little twists are revealed and we start to get a sense of what happened the night of the murder.

Phoebe wrote this book very well, giving just enough information at each point that you have to finish to discover what really happened but also tied it up at the end so well that all the unanswered questions are finally answered and you are left feeling satisfied although a little weirded out by the outcome.

A very well written thriller that would be quick to read as you continuously fly through the pages.

#IncidentReport | #BookReview | ONE MINUTE LATER by Susan Lewis @susandlewis (February 21st 2019, Harper Collins @HarperCollinsUK )

ONE MINUTE LATER by Susan Lewis
21st February 2019, Harper Collins UK

It’s takes one minute to change everything…

Vivienne Shager has it all. A highflying job. A beautiful apartment. Friends whose lives are as perfect as her own. But on the afternoon of her 27th birthday, Vivi has a heart attack.

Now Vivi’s life shrinks back to how it begun, as she moves back to the small seaside town she grew up in. With her time running out, there is one thing she wants to know the truth about.

Some secrets are best left in the past…

Thirty years earlier, Shelley’s family home, Deerwood farm, bursts full of love and happiness. But one family member has hidden a secret for all these years. Until Vivi comes home demanding answers, and it takes just a moment to unravel the lie at their heart of their lives…

Vivienne thinks she has it all. The flat in the posh part of London, the great job as a lawyer, lots of good friends and a boyfriend that doesn’t want to be in her pockets but when on her birthday she has a massive heart attack her whole life is altered.

As Vivi finds out she needs a new heart and whilst waiting for one to become available her whole life has to change otherwise there is a high chance she won’t live she has to uproot to her childhood home so she can be looked after by her family and friends. As she tries to adjust to this new lifestyle she is also determined to find out about her real father, a secret her mother is intent on holding.

The story jumps from present day to 1989 where we are introduced to the Raynor family who live at Deerwood Farm and although we get to see lots about their lives and obviously know there is a link between the two stories, we have no idea what that link is until much later in the book, although as it progresses you don’t start to think the story is going one way. I quite enjoyed the Raynor story, more than the Vivienne story if I’m honest. Deerwood was described as a very beautiful place and really felt like it came alive.

I have to be honest and say that the link between the 2 for me was very disappointing. I felt that there was a huge build up throughout the story that ended on an anti climax. Small characters had a brief mention to then have a huge role later on. I also didn’t have a huge connection with Vivienne, I found her irritating and she took some of the shine away from the story for me. I feel like the link was sort of included to take it away from being a romance novel and try and turn it into a thriller and that didn’t really work for me. I would definitely describe this book as a romance.

That being said the book has been give a 4 star review by me because the ending is so good. I actually got goosebumps and felt myself getting very emotional throughout the last few pages. It didn’t go where I thought it would, but this pleased me as the ending it did have seemed a bit more realistic than what I expected to happen. You can certainly tell that Susan has done her research into heart failure and transplants as the information included seems to be spot on. The ending completely turned the book around for me.

If your looking for something a bit more hard hitting than just a regular run of the mill romance novel then definitely give this a try.

Jock Row (Jock Hard #1) by Sara Ney
3rd May 2018, Indie Published

Scarlett is always the sensible one: The sober driver. The planner. The one holding your hair back while you’re worshiping the porcelain gods.

Week-after-week, she visits Jock Row with her friends — the university’s hottest party scene and breeding ground for student athletes. And if keeping her friends out of trouble, and guys out of their pants, was a sport, she’d be the star athlete.

Being a well known jock-blocker gets her noticed for all the wrong reasons; just like that, she’s banned from Jock Row. NO GUY WANTS A GIRL AROUND WHO KEEPS THEIR JOCK FRIENDS FROM GETTING LAID.

“Rowdy” Wade is the hot shot short-stop for the university’s baseball team — and the unlucky bastard who drew the short straw: keep little Miss Goody Two-Shoes out of the Baseball House.

But week-after-week Scarlett returns, determined to get inside.

JOCK ROW is a refreshing, snug and electrifying contemporary sports romance that gives you ALL the feels. A considerate story of two people striking up a relationship after a not-so-great introduction, without all the bullshit and drama that you come to read in many romance tomes.

The growing romance between Rowdy and Scarlett is HOT and makes for exciting reading, with ‘will they/won’t they’ moments aplenty. When the two finally admit their feelings, it’s enough to make your heart burst!

If you’re looking for an alpha-hole lead – you won’t find that here! Rowdy is one of the few book-blokes you root for!
