Cormoran Strike is back, with his assistant Robin Ellacott, in a mystery based around soldiers returning from war.

When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman’s severed leg.

Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed. There are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible – and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality.

With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike is increasingly sure is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands, and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men. But as more horrendous acts occur, time is running out for the two of them…

Career of Evil is the third in the series featuring private detective Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott. A mystery and also a story of a man and a woman at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives.

I loved a good who dunnit that keeps you guessing until the very last page and Career of Evil certainly does that.

I love how the Cormoran Strike series although mainly crime has a romantic story running through with the will they won’t they that exsists between Strike and his partner Robin.

I found I easily got engrossed in this story and couldn’t stop turning the pages eager to discover who the culprit was and how he would be caught.

We learn alot more about Strike in this story and how he became who he is as well bits about his past and people he has come across that maybe explain some of how he became such a great detective.

I honestly had no idea throughout this story who the killer was. We are given 3 names and slowly learn the reasons Strike suspects them but at no point did I convince myself I knew who it was. There are constant twists and turns and this book takes us on a proper ride that we never want to get off.

Overall a cracker of a crime novel that you CANNOT put down until you get to the end!

#BlogBlitz| #BookReview | #IncidentReport | LOCKED IN (The Locked Trilogy #2) by GB Williams @GailBWilliams (February 10th 2018, Bloodhound Books @Bloodhoundbook)

Welcome to my stop on this Blog Tour for the release of LOCKED IN which is the second in the LOCKED Trilogy by GB Williams.

I would like to say that it is truly my pleasure to be invited onto this blog tour! Particular thanks to Sarah Hardy, Bloodhound Books and of course the lovely GB Williams who gifted me an early copy of LOCKED IN. I am forever grateful and promise that the review below is 100% honest and of my own views.

GB Williams - Locked In_cover_high res

To kick off, we have the “blurb” for the book;

Do you love gripping and hard-boiled crime thrillers? Then try GB Williams’ unmissable Locked In.

Ariadne Teddington is having a bad day. Then she finds herself staring down the barrel of a gun.

Stuck in a bank robbery turned hostage situation, Ariadne keeps her head down and her mouth shut; because if there is one thing criminals hate more than the police it’s prison guards.

Trapped with a child, a policeman, and a robber on the edge, Ariadne desperately searches for a way out for them.

Can they all escape unharmed?

And when everyone is locked in, will anyone get out alive?

So, want to know what I thought?;

After DEVOURING the first book in this series; LOCKED UP back in September, I was ready for more from Ariadne and GB does not disappoint.

We are thrown straight into the action from the first few pages; a bank robbery turned hostage situation! Can this woman catch a break?! This story takes place a little while after the events in LOCKED UP, so at least Ariadne has had chance to catch her breath a little.

There is a moment in this book. A moment where you have to sit the book down, let out that big sigh you have been keeping in and exclaim ‘WHAT THE ACTUAL F?!’… but in the best possible way! Of course I’m not going to spoil it and tell you who it involves and wehre abouts in the book it takes place, but if you were as invested in the characters from the first novel – it will knock your socks off.

From that moment, I could not tear my eyes away from the pages. We are taken on what can only be described as a rollercoaster ride. With both the robbers and hostages locked in a small bank – it is only a matter of time before we start to cracks on both sides which have devastating affects.

The only question I have now is what do I need to sacrifice/do to get my hands on LOCKED DOWN?! I will do pretty much anything….as long as it’s legal!

About GB Williams;

Colour Portrait 10

After being made redundant in 2012, GB started taking her life-long passion for writing more seriously and looking to sell her work. Specialising in complex, fast-paced crime novels. Her debut novel, Locked Up, was released in September 2017, Locked In follows in February 2018, and Locked Down in September 2018.

GB was shortlisted for the 2014 CWA Margery Allingham Short Story Competition with the story Last Shakes, now available in Last Cut Casebook. She is also a
feature writer and occasional comic book reviewer. Crime novels are her stock in trade, but she has had success with short stories in various genres
including steampunk, horror, erotica and general fiction.

With bills to pay, she’s back working as a systems architect by day, a freelance fiction editor and keen writer of an evening and weekend. GB really needs to
learn to sleep.

Originally from Kent, GB moved to South Wales as a supposed first step on a year around the world.  Then she met a guy.  Kept the guy, kissed the travel goodbye. Knowing that the best way to travel is by book anyway, she has always read, always written. GB now has two grown-up children, the world’s most imperious
cat, a house full of books and a hard drive full of manuscripts (though some will never be allowed out of a locked basement).

#BlogTour| #BookReview | #IncidentReport | DEEP BLUE TROUBLE by Steph Broadribb @crimethrillgirl (January 18th 2018, Orenda Books @OrendaBooks)

Welcome to my stop on this Blog Tour for the release of DEEP BLUE TROUBLE by Steph Broadribb. The second book in the Lori Anderson series.

I would like to say that it is truly my pleasure to be invited onto this blog tour! Particular thanks to Anne Cater, Orenda Books and the wonderful Steph Broadribb who gifted me an early copy of DEEP BLUE TROUBLE. I am forever grateful and promise that the review below is 100% honest and of my own views.

DEEP BUE TROUBLE AW.indd

To kick off, we have the “blurb” for the book;

Single-mother Florida bounty hunter Lori Anderson’s got an ocean of trouble on her hands. Her daughter Dakota is safe, but her cancer is threatening a comeback, and Lori needs JT—Dakota’s daddy and the man who taught Lori everything—alive and kicking. Problem is, he’s behind bars, and heading for death row.

Desperate to save him, Lori does a deal, taking on off-the-books job from shady FBI agent Alex Monroe. Bring back on-the-run felon, Gibson “The Fish” Fletcher, and JT walks free. Following Fletcher from Florida to California, Lori teams up with local bounty hunter Dez McGregor and his team. But Dez works very differently to Lori, and the tension between them threatens to put the whole job in danger.

With Monroe pressuring Lori for results, the clock ticking on JT’s life, and nothing about the Fletcher case adding up, Lori’s hitting walls at every turn. But this is one job she’s got to get right, or she’ll lose everything.

So, want to know what I thought?

Sweet. Baby. Jesus. If I wasn’t already in love with Lori Anderson – then I am even more so after this book!

When I think about fictional headstrong women, who take no crap from anybody and do everything they can to protect their families… I instantly think of Sarah Connor from The Terminator series. I am now pleased that I will be adding Lori to this list as well!

Steph has carried on the story in DEEP BLUE TROUBLE directly after the events in DEEP DOWN DEAD and Lori on the hunt for a man who can help free JT. A man currently spending time in prison for a crime he did not commit. Lori is on a race against time to find the missing fugitive and make the exchange for JT.

There is an added level of danger for Lori as it becomes apparant that another party is interested in Lori. An interest which at the end of the book, is left on a cliffhanger as we discover where the next installment will take us. I find myself conflicted for wanting a ‘happily ever after’ for Lori & JT – but also wanting to see what next can be thrown at them. A story which has consumed me like this will stay with me for a very long time.

Short, fast chapters keeps the pace of this book moving at a speed where we don’t lose the story – but insteads are there, in the action. Feeling all the emotions with Lori and trying to help her think of her next move. I truly believe that Steph is a wizard. She possesses the magic to craft a stunning narrative, whilst creating characters which a reader cannot help but invest in.

My only hope now is that Steph continues to write about Lori for at least the next 15+ books…..that would be excellent! 🙂

#BlogTour| #BookReview | KILLED (Henning Juul #5) by Thomas Enger @EngerThomas (February 15th 2018, Orenda Books @OrendaBooks)

Welcome to my stop on this Blog Tour for the release of the final book in the Henning Juul series; KILLED by Thomas Enger

I would like to say that I am blown away to be invited onto this blog tour! Particular thanks to Anne Cater, Orenda Books and of course the wonderful Thomas Enger who gifted me an early copy of KILLED. I am forever grateful and promise that the review below is 100% honest and of my own views.

KILLED+VIS+2

To kick off, we have the “blurb” for the book;

SOMEONE HAS TO DIE…

Henning Juul sits in a boat on a dark lake. A man with a gun sits
opposite him. At the man’s feet is a body that will be soon be dumped into the water.

Henning knows that the same fate awaits him. And he knows that it’s his own fault.

Who started the fire that killed Henning’s young son? How is his sister, Trine, involved? Most importantly, who can be trusted?

Packed with tension and unexpected twists, Killed is the long-awaited finale of the internationally renowned series featuring conflicted,
disillusioned but always dogged crime reporter Henning Juul, and one of the most chilling, dark and moving crime thrillers you may ever read.

So, you want to know what I think?

If it wasn’t for the fear of destroying it – I would have launched my Kindle across the room once I finished KILLED. It is THAT good! I devoured this book in less than 48 hours and I wish I hadn’t with the knowledge that this is the last we will read of Henning. (Unless Thomas has a change of heart and decides to bring him back…I’ll be ready!)

Henning’s story – the twists, the turns, the scandal of everyone that was involved. I’ve not enjoyed a series like this so much since THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO! The trail of deception runs deep and you find yourself doubting everyone!

The ending of this story shocked me, but then felt right. It was the culmination of everything Henning has been through to discover what actually happened the night his son was cruelly taken from him. We also understand the ‘why’ and it’s a pretty hard pill to swallow.

Thomas has an exceptional way with words and with the talent of Kari Dickson’s translation – I was ‘there’. I felt all of the betrayal, the anguish, the pain….and not just from Henning. Nora’s journey in KILLED is a sad one as she experiences a pain that some people can only imagine.

There are talks of the Henning Juul series being made into a TV series! I for one cannot wait to see how Henning’s story will translated to screen and hope that any producer in their right mind will ensure his story is portrayed in the right way!

About Thomas Enger;

DSC_0013

Thomas Enger (b. 1973) is a former journalist. He made his debut with the crime novel Burned (Skinndød) in 2009, which became an international sensation before publication. Burned is the first in a series of 5 books about the journalist Henning Juul, which delves into the depths of Oslo’s underbelly, skewering the corridors of dirty politics and nailing the fast-moving world of 24-hour news.

Rights to the series have been sold to 26 countries to date. In 2013 Enger published his first book for young adults, a dark fantasy thriller called The Evil Legacy, for which he won the U-prize (best book Young Adult). Enger also composes music, and he lives in Oslo.
