Cormoran Strike is back, with his assistant Robin Ellacott, in a mystery based around soldiers returning from war.

When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman’s severed leg.

Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed. There are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible – and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality.

With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike is increasingly sure is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands, and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men. But as more horrendous acts occur, time is running out for the two of them…

Career of Evil is the third in the series featuring private detective Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott. A mystery and also a story of a man and a woman at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives.

I loved a good who dunnit that keeps you guessing until the very last page and Career of Evil certainly does that.

I love how the Cormoran Strike series although mainly crime has a romantic story running through with the will they won’t they that exsists between Strike and his partner Robin.

I found I easily got engrossed in this story and couldn’t stop turning the pages eager to discover who the culprit was and how he would be caught.

We learn alot more about Strike in this story and how he became who he is as well bits about his past and people he has come across that maybe explain some of how he became such a great detective.

I honestly had no idea throughout this story who the killer was. We are given 3 names and slowly learn the reasons Strike suspects them but at no point did I convince myself I knew who it was. There are constant twists and turns and this book takes us on a proper ride that we never want to get off.

Overall a cracker of a crime novel that you CANNOT put down until you get to the end!

#BlogTour| #BookReview | #IncidentReport | DEEP BLUE TROUBLE by Steph Broadribb @crimethrillgirl (January 18th 2018, Orenda Books @OrendaBooks)

Welcome to my stop on this Blog Tour for the release of DEEP BLUE TROUBLE by Steph Broadribb. The second book in the Lori Anderson series.

I would like to say that it is truly my pleasure to be invited onto this blog tour! Particular thanks to Anne Cater, Orenda Books and the wonderful Steph Broadribb who gifted me an early copy of DEEP BLUE TROUBLE. I am forever grateful and promise that the review below is 100% honest and of my own views.

To kick off, we have the “blurb” for the book;

Single-mother Florida bounty hunter Lori Anderson’s got an ocean of trouble on her hands. Her daughter Dakota is safe, but her cancer is threatening a comeback, and Lori needs JT—Dakota’s daddy and the man who taught Lori everything—alive and kicking. Problem is, he’s behind bars, and heading for death row.

Desperate to save him, Lori does a deal, taking on off-the-books job from shady FBI agent Alex Monroe. Bring back on-the-run felon, Gibson “The Fish” Fletcher, and JT walks free. Following Fletcher from Florida to California, Lori teams up with local bounty hunter Dez McGregor and his team. But Dez works very differently to Lori, and the tension between them threatens to put the whole job in danger.

With Monroe pressuring Lori for results, the clock ticking on JT’s life, and nothing about the Fletcher case adding up, Lori’s hitting walls at every turn. But this is one job she’s got to get right, or she’ll lose everything.

So, want to know what I thought?

Sweet. Baby. Jesus. If I wasn’t already in love with Lori Anderson – then I am even more so after this book!

When I think about fictional headstrong women, who take no crap from anybody and do everything they can to protect their families… I instantly think of Sarah Connor from The Terminator series. I am now pleased that I will be adding Lori to this list as well!

Steph has carried on the story in DEEP BLUE TROUBLE directly after the events in DEEP DOWN DEAD and Lori on the hunt for a man who can help free JT. A man currently spending time in prison for a crime he did not commit. Lori is on a race against time to find the missing fugitive and make the exchange for JT.

There is an added level of danger for Lori as it becomes apparant that another party is interested in Lori. An interest which at the end of the book, is left on a cliffhanger as we discover where the next installment will take us. I find myself conflicted for wanting a ‘happily ever after’ for Lori & JT – but also wanting to see what next can be thrown at them. A story which has consumed me like this will stay with me for a very long time.

Short, fast chapters keeps the pace of this book moving at a speed where we don’t lose the story – but insteads are there, in the action. Feeling all the emotions with Lori and trying to help her think of her next move. I truly believe that Steph is a wizard. She possesses the magic to craft a stunning narrative, whilst creating characters which a reader cannot help but invest in.

My only hope now is that Steph continues to write about Lori for at least the next 15+ books…..that would be excellent! 🙂

It was meant to be a harmless stag night prank. A few hours later four of his best friends are dead and Michael Harrison has disappeared. With only three days to the wedding, Detective Superintendent Grace – a man haunted by the shadow of his own missing wife – is contacted by Michael’s beautiful, distraught fiancee, Ashley Harper.

Grace discovers that the one man who ought to know Michael Harrison’s whereabouts is saying nothing. But then he has a lot to gain – more than anyone realizes. For one man’s disaster is another man’s fortune . . . Dead simple . . .

A favourite book here at the P Turners!

I loved this book. I have read it before but I enjoyed it so much I wanted to give it another go to remind myself of what happens before I get stuck into the rest of the series.

So much happens! It is a maze constantly changing direction with twists and turns that tip everything you know completely on it’s head. It literally leaves you mouth open at one point. It had me sat on the edge of my seat the whole time and I did not want to stop reading.

We are introduced to Detective Roy Grace in this book who is the main character in the series. We are shown glimpses of his personal life and I am sure there will be lots more to discover throughout the books.

There are also a few more names mentioned that I feel will become more regular as the series goes on.

Definitely glad I decided to re read and excited to discover the rest of the series.
