CHRISTMAS FOR ONE (No Greater Love #5) by Amanda Prowse
Published; November 20th 2014, Head of Zeus Books

A lonely single parent finds love at Christmas in this warm festive rom-com from best-seller Amanda Prowse.

As a child, Meg always dreamed of the perfect Christmas…

This year, she can make it come true for her own little boy. There will be turkey and all the trimmings, a glittering tree, and a stocking hung up by a roaring fire. Who cares if there’s no devoted husband in the picture? She and Lucas will be just fine on their own.

But then a chance meeting with a stranger in New York unravels everything she’s planned. Will Meg finally get everything she wished for? Or will she be alone this Christmas after all?

I always like to read books based around the festive season around Christmas and new year so when I saw this at the library I decided it would tick that box well.

Meg has finally found a family albeit they don’t actually belong to her. The Aunt and cousin of her ex fiancé have taken her under their wing and finally she has a job she’s gone at and a home she loves. The one thing she is missing is a partner to share it with so when she is asked to travel to New York to help with the opening of their branch of café and runs into Edd, sparks well and truly fly. When after only a couple of days they have to go their separate ways Meg still feels the pull to Edd and wants to make a long term plan. As with all good love stories not everything is as it seems and this couple has to pull apart to be able to come back together.

Like any love story there is an element of predictability in this book. Girl meets Boy when she least expects it, falls head over heels and then finds out a great big shocking secret although I have to admit I did not predict what this secret was, I knew as a seasoned romance reader that not everything would be quite as simple as it seemed but not quite what the obstacle would be.

Meg was very easy to like and I did find myself rooting for her throughout the story. Edd also seems to be very sweet and straight forward to start with. I did find myself disliking him when we find out what the secret was, because I’m quite a black and white person and I feel he misled Meg in a lot of ways and was very unfair. Meg’s little boy Lucas was delightful and I found myself smiling whenever he was around.

Although there were elements of festiveness in this book it didn’t give me a real Christmassy feeling that I was expecting. New York was described beautifully though and as someone that has never been but is desperate to it did really bring it to life for me and I could imagine myself walking the streets and seeing the things Meg did which was awesome.

I didn’t realise that this was fifth in a series. I don’t know if you need to read them in order but as someone that prefers to start from the beginning I am a little bit gutted that I haven’t read them in order.

I still found myself enjoying this book and I was eager to keep turning the pages to discover where our characters ended up. I would definitely recommend for someone looking for an easy, quick read.

MIRACLE ON REGENT STREET (Evie Taylor #1) by Ali Harris
Published; October 13th 2011, Simon & Schuster UK

Evie Taylor, a girl with a big heart, gets lost in the big city. For the past two years, Evie has lived an invisible life in London. Her neighbours think she’s just moved in, her sister mistakes her for a live-in nanny, and even Evie’s manager at work can’t remember her name.

But all that is about to change …this Christmas has brought a flurry of snow and unimaginable possibilities into town. Evie works in the stockroom of an old-fashioned, family-run, London fashion department store. Hardy’s is a beautiful, wood-panelled jewellery box of a building, but it’s in dire need of a makeover.

One day Evie overhears that if the entire store’s takings don’t turn round by Dec 26th – 3 weeks’ time – the family who own it will be forced to sell to one of the big chains. Hardy’s is in need of a Christmas miracle. Determined to save her beloved store, Evie hatches a plan to secretly transform it into a magical place to shop again. But has the time come for her to be noticed too?

When an accidental romantic encounter with handsome, enigmatic Joel gives her the chance of a whole new identity, she takes it.

When I picked this book to read after having it sat on my kindle for a long time I was looking for something light and fluffy to read alongside another book.

It was certainly heart warming, light and fluffy but it completely surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. It completely sucked me in and I found myself eager to keep reading.

Set in a struggling modern day dept store this story is based on the stockroom girl who feels invisible to all those around. It’s a tale of a lost soul who does everything for everyone but forgets to follow her own heart. Based at Christmas time this story leaves you with a full heart.

It’s a magical story that gets us asking ourselves what we would change about our lives and what we would do in this situation.

There are parts that are predictable for readers of chick lit but it didn’t feel like a story I’d read a 100 times before. The setting made it feel different and even a little bit special.

I fell in love with the characters & their individual stories and felt as invested in all of them as I did the main character. I actually feel that some of them deserve their own book. I’d love to read more about Lily’s dancing career and Dehilia and Will’s relationship. They were all written in such a way I was very invested in them all.

This book left me feeling warm, fuzzy with a heart full of love and a feeling I could conquer the world. Highly recommended and definitely an author I will read more of.
