THE C WORD (Just A Word #1) by Kerry Heavens
17th September 2015, Indie Published

“You must keep it inside.
You must never let it out.
It must never gain control.
Let it be who you are and you will lose everything.
Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes, Sir.”

Control
It’s a way of life for Max McQueen.
It doesn’t come easy, but he thought he had it mastered.
Until now
Now nothing works
It’s slipping away
He must find a way to get it back
Or he risks losing everything.
It’s just a word.
But it’s the thing he needs most of all.
It’s what holds him together.
Or is it what holds him back?

As part of the P Turners reading challenge we all have a list of books that have been on our shelves, unread, for too long. So we’re taking part in a Beat The Backlist and The C Word by Kerry Heavens was my first port of call.

I’ve been a huge fan of Kerry Heavens since I picked up a copy of Spencer last year and after meeting this incredible author a couple of times, I was eager to read this short novel. The C Word isn’t anything I was expecting, intrigued by the idea of complete control and the enigmatic lead character, our hero, who strives for a iron hold on his control, I devoured this novel.

Kerry Heavens knows how to write, to create beautiful men who test the limits of what is a hero. Here is an author who knows what kind of characters her readers want, to the point where we don’t even know we want them. The book is a short read, a delightful insight into this mysterious world.

I was left completely intrigued by the characters in this novel, eager to read more of their story, to delve deeper into this world set apart from ours. I am hoping that in the future Kerry Heavens gives us more of this story, more of these characters.

A very enjoyable read, keeping us intrigued and very happy.

WILL (Not Your Average British Romance #2) by Kerry Heavens

Will Middleton has no clue how much I want him.
He looks at me like I’m an angel,
And all I can think about is how he would look tied to my bed.
He’s the perfect gentleman.
Amazing considering he’s related to The Spencer Ryan.
He is everything Spencer is not. Sensitive, considerate, and unassumingly handsome.
I’d like to show him that’s a good thing.
But he broke my heart once,
and I don’t know if I can let him do it again.

Mags Goldsmith is a beautiful, confident heiress and she seems to want me.
Although she really shouldn’t. I’m not what she needs.
She’s a goddess. And when I say goddess,
I mean erotica writing siren, who knows more than one use for a riding crop.
Everything I thought I knew about her has been rewritten,
And now she’s got me tied up in knots.
She’s everything I’ve ever wanted and more,
I just have to prove I’m worthy.

This is not your average British romance.
It’s a tale of second chances, strap-ons, and of course sex oranges,
All bound up and tied to a bedroom door.
It’s love in the real world,
where bad boys are a dime a dozen.
And it takes a real man to be a good boy.

WILL is the sequel to the very saucy and delectable SPENCER by the author Kerry Heavens. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting this author at a couple of book events this year, each time ignoring the limit I’ve given myself and given in to buying more of her delicious novels.

The characters in WILL were already introduced to us in SPENCER, so we already know a little about the history between our lead man Will and the lovely Mags from there, however this novel takes things to a whole new level. To say things hot up between our couple is an understatement and we definitely see a side to these characters we were not expecting.

I loved how Heavens brought these two into the limelight, we still got glimpses of Spencer and Jax, but for the most part our world here revolves around Will and Mags. A couple whose history looks set to repeat itself but with a few more kinks along the way.

The possibility that these two beautiful souls might be able to make a second chance work entices us to read on, we want them to get that second chance, to make amends for the mistakes of their past. Again the path to love isn’t smooth for Will and Mags, with outside forces both pushing them together and possibly pulling them apart.

Heavens brilliantly brings these two together, with excellent writing and so much passion in her style that you would find it hard to not enjoy this novel. It is without a doubt one of my favourite novels of the year and I have officially become a massive Kerry Heavens fan. So much so, that I cannot wait to read the rest of her work.

@TheSpencerRyan exudes confidence,
I mean, have you seen him???
His dark good looks and tattooed muscled perfection are too much.
He’s hot. Lickably hot.
And he has a way with words that leaves me breathless.
But cocky doesn’t even cover it,
this guy is so arrogant you have to fight back.
But God he’s so lickable!
The thing is though,
he looks like sex but he’ll taste like jackass.

@OMGJazzyP is a sexy, annoying ball of rage in fuck-me heels
and she hates me.
Although her nipples would tend to disagree.
It’s a deadly combination.
She’s a princess.
And when I say princess, I mean intolerable, spoiled brat with a tiara.
Sure she’s got that curvaceous goddess thing going on,
but that mouth of hers…
God it needs something in it to shut it up.

I was first introduced to Kerry Heavens after having my ear chewed off by fellow Turner *M* who had recently finished this cheeky little romance called SPENCER. She was very passionate about the characters and the story…team that with visiting Kerry at RARE in London this year and I was intrigued!

My first thoughts on Spencer were exactly as *M* described. A total dickhead. Full of himself, thinking himself a z-list celebrity and gods gift to women. That opinion of him sticks with me for the majority of the book. The way he talks and behaves around women is enough to make any sensible female look the other way, but this is part of his charm. He has something… or be it someone in his sights and he is pretty straightforward in chasing it.

Jazz however is the opposite of Spencer. Not a pushover in the slightest (in fact a certain scenario at the beginning of the book plays out better than I imagined!) but a woman who isn’t interested in the online fame that Spencer has – even choosing a picture of shoes as her Twitter avatar! She is certainly a match for Spencer and some of the ‘conflicting’ moments were some of the characters shining moments!

That tagline to this book is ‘Not Your Average British Romance’ and never a truer word has been spoken! I loved the different approach in using social media as it makes the story relatable to how people meet each other now! Now, the ending of this book…I kind of guessed what was going to happen, but that’s not to mean it didn’t hit me right in the feels. I nearly cried at the bus station! Having being introduced to Will in this book, I am looking forward to reading his story next!

LUCKY SCARS by Kerry Heavens
Published; July 3rd 2018, Indie Published

Not every love story begins with a fiery explosion of lust.
Some are tiny embers of hope that smoulder slowly until the stars align…

I’d been living in a bubble.
It was meant to protect me from the things in life that hurt.
I could live, I could laugh, but at least I didn’t have to love.
Loving was dangerous and I would never do it again.

It was working just fine, until the bubble burst.
It let in danger.
It let in light.
It let in…him.

Unknowingly I’d been living in the dark, feeling my way.
He filled my world with starlight.
He showed me how to move on to the next level.
He made me feel again.

I thought the wounds from the past would never fully heal,
But perhaps they only heal when the time is right.

Sometimes you just have to thank your lucky scars.

OMG I have just finished the book and I feel so lost! I have a proper book hangover!

I happened across this ARC by chance and thought I’d give it a go and I am SO glad I did.

LUCKY SCARS is a lovely story with short chapters and a story that drew me in straight away. In the two 1/4 days it took me to read it I was constantly humming David Bowie’s ‘Starman’ so this book was constantly on my mind until I could pick it up again and read a little more.

I now feel the need to google ‘Daddy porn’ and fully experience a sex-fog! As cheesy as it sounds, some of the lines in this book made me pause in my reading just so I could appreciate how beautiful the quote was.

If like myself you have never read a Kerry Heaven book, I wholeheartedly recommend LUCKY SCARS. I had the full range of emotions whilst reading this book; I laughed, smiled, felt outrage, sadness and even welled up a few times.

** WARNING – SPOILERS AHEAD **

Spencer by Kerry Heavens was a great read. One that pushed the boundaries of what is acceptable behaviour between two people. Spencer Ryan is your standard beautiful, arrogant playboy, on the surface and he is attracted to Jazz on Twitter. A girl who has very enviable taste in some sexy high heels. Ones that instantly catch the eye of the Twitter playboy.

Jazz is in a job she doesn’t love, with a very inappropriate boss, who thankfully gets what he deserves. Here is a young woman who will not be pushed around by her boss juxtaposed against a woman who will start an affair with the sexy stranger from Twitter. Sure Jazz has seen Spencer in the flesh, bumping into each other at the local store but it is there chats on Twitter that start this turbulent affair.

Once they meet in the real world, things are hot headed and steamy. Jazz is instantly turned off at Spencer’s arrogance in the flesh, but he at first doesn’t know the sexy shoe girl from his rather steamy Twitter conversations is the apparently stuck up princess Jazz. Their war of words quickly dissolves into very sexy, dominant encounters. Spencer doesn’t understand his attraction to Jazz, she pushes all his buttons and he cannot stay away from her.

Jazz isn’t so strong at staying away from Spencer, her words reach ears unwilling to hear the word no. The results being an internal battle between Jazz’s subconscious and her libido. The scenes between the two are downright sinful. Spencer knows he’s a god and sets out to prove it in every sexual encounter. Jazz is unable to resist.

A relationship that is both volatile and public on Twitter ensues, pushing both Jazz and Spencer further out of their comfort zones and closer to each other. Is the bad boy player really that arrogant and self assured? Is Jazz ever going to admit how attracted to Spencer she is? Whilst striving to follow her dreams and beat her attraction to the Twitter playboy, it becomes inevitable that this couple are going to end up together.

Kerry Heavens has created one of the most arrogant males I’ve read, giving Jesse Ward, Christian Grey and Blake Landon a run for their money. I admit there was something about him that just plain got on my nerves but there was also a part of me very attracted to him. Jazz is a great heroine, a woman who stands up for herself but falls for the playboy, which in part both annoys me and yet I wanted them to get together. All in all I actually loved this novel and thoroughly enjoyed the read.
