Annie has never experienced the ‘spark’ with a guy-that instant chemistry that renders you weak in the knees. That is, until a night out brings her face to face with the dangerously sexy and mysterious Jack. It’s not just a spark that ignites between them. It’s an explosion. Jack promises to consume Annie, and he fully delivers on that promise.

Overwhelmed by the intensity of their one night together, Annie slips out of their hotel room. She is certain that a man who’s had such a powerful impact on her must be dangerous. She has no idea that he belongs to another. That he’s forbidden.

This book was recommended to me by a friend of mine who has been raving about Jodi’s books for so long so when I saw it in the library I decided it was time to give it a go.

My friend did not steer me wrong. From the second I read the author’s note at the start I was hooked and so intrigued to see what was actually Forbidden.

I am glad that nothing is given away until you are already hooked. I think if I had known the subject matter beforehand I probably wouldn’t have started it but by the time the discovery was made I was already invested in the story and characters to stop.

The characters are very likeable. Annie is shown to be a strong, independent, hardworking woman who most women would aspire to be. Jack is a little less likeable especially when we find out why he’s forbidden but as the story develops he is forgiven and you can’t help but lose your heart to him.

There were a few points during the book that I found myself frustrated with both Jack and Annie but Jodi writes in such a way that those feelings don’t last long before your back to enjoying the story again.

I found myself completely engrossed in Jack and Annie’s story and it’s completely different to the predictable romance novels I usually read. I think this has a slight predictablity about it but not enough to take anything away from the enjoyment.

I can’t say too much in the review because I want people to go in as blind as I was because it really adds that extra something so I will finish by saying….just read it!

It is no secret that *M* is a HUGE Jodi Ellen Malpas fan and has been nagging me to read her catalogue for the last few years. Within the last twelve months, I have devoured both the THIS MAN series and the ONE NIGHT series. LOVED both series and Jodi’s writing style.

THE FORBIDDEN already had a high expectation in my eye. I knew it was going to be good, but I didn’t realise just HOW good this read would be! The subject matter is pretty full on and it’s certainly an uncomfortable read at time. You can certainly see the progression in both her writing style and themes with this book. It pushes you to think about how you would react/behave in the situations Jack and Annie find themselves in.

What Jodi is able to achieve effortlessly for me is ‘the perfect man’ in Jack. A man who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to pursue it. He is strong, but shows a vulnerability. He is also attentive, affectionate, romantic and just an all round great guy who puts most real life men to shame!  Annie compliments Jack really well. Again, a strong character who knows what she wants. She is confident, sassy and again, a vulnerability shines through. Neither Jack or Annie can live without each other and it makes for a very passionate affair.

As with most Jodi books – there is drama and it comes at a HUGE cost to Jack and Annie. Tissues at the ready for certain moments!

Jodi really is one of those rare diamonds that more people need to learn about and lose themselves in her books. I’m looking forward to reading many more books from Jodi! I’m wondering though how many more names should can choose for her leading men beginning with ‘J’?! 🙂
