Throwback Thursday is a weekly book meme created by the lovely Renee at It’s Book Talk.

“It began this Throwback Thursday meme as a way to share some of my old favorites as well as sharing books that I want to read that were published over a year ago. You know, the ones waiting patiently on my TBR list while I continue to pile more titles on top of them:)! I like that these older books are usually much easier than new releases to get a hold of at libraries and elsewhere.” (Credit; It’s Book Talk)

My pick for this week is a book I read back in 2015….

THE CUCKOO’S CALLING by Robert Galbraith
Published; February 13th 2014, Sphere

“When a troubled model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case. A war veteran, wounded both physically and psychologically, Strike’s life is in disarray. The case gives him a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model’s complex world, the darker things get – and the closer he gets to terrible danger.

The classic ‘whodunnit’ mysteries are my favourite. I love suspecting ALL of the players in the game and trying to figure out who did it!

The Cuckoo’s Calling did not disappoint! I must admit that I was starting to feel like I had read this book before….down on his luck lawyer, small dingy office, receptionist who cannot be paid properly (if at all), famous case that would make him famous and more successful…… yep….I have read this before…. John Grisham’s ‘The Litigators’. (which is an excellent read!)

With this aside, the story is great. Young model; Luna Landry is found dead on her upmarket London street as an apparent case of suicide. This verdict does not wash with Luna’s brother; John who hires Cormoran Strike to investigate the incident. What John doesn’t expect is that Strike uncovers lies and secrets to discover the grizzly truth.

A great read from Galbraith/Rowling. She certainly has a knack for this kind of writing. I am looking forward to reading the next books in the Cormoran Strike series; The Silkworm and Career of Evil.
Until next week – Happy Reading!
